For the m30 conversion a modified M3 prop shaft is suppossed to be the best option. Does it have to be an E30 m3 or can it be E36 as I'm find it hard to get hold of an E30 one!

standard (untouched) E30 M3 one is fine mate.
or get a 535i front half joined to the e30 rear half. it sounds like a less neat solution but rarely costs more than a used M3 prop anyway (in region of £100)

Thought they had to be shortened? Least thats what it says on e30.de
How exactly does the 535 front join onto the e30 half? guessing its not just bolt it on!
E36 a no no then? cos theres 1 goin cheap

E30.de is wrong, basically. the M3 prop is short enough even if you use their mounts in P3 - i'm sure people on here have done so.
the props need cutting in front of the centre bearing, welding and balancing. I think a company called Reco-Prop do this for about £130, but i'm sure those on here who've actually done this will help you further
I was lucky and got an M3 prop for £80, but they are a bit thin on the ground
I don't think the E36 one will help much, though i don't know if anyone's tried one.

I concur with Toby. I have an E30 M3 prop, in P3 with no shortening required. I think there's still about a half inch of shortening left??
E36 ones I think have the same output (diff end) as an E34 ie: Round bolt plate and CV like a driveshaft. I could be wrong, but thats from what I can remember!

There's also some suggestion that some E28 525i / 528i props will fit... Anyone tried?

Im fairly sure the E36 prop wont bolt up to the E30 diff. E30 M3 props normally go for around £100, but as Toby said, not so easy to find now. You could try Moseley Motorsport - they got me mine within a week.

i made a mistake with my prop and cut both ends of the tube.
you dont need to.
use the back half from the 325i / 320i. then before the prop cut it, shorten it, and attach the front section of the m30 prop.
easy
if you measure the lenght a prop place can re-tube it for £60 - 100
they paint it the lot.
i get mine back tomorrow!
here is a pic of mine but you DONT need to cut the back section (e30 diff end)!!!
ah balls i cant get Photobucket to work. i will try again later

got my prop back this morning! its been re-tubed both ends for £116.
not too bad.
should have been £58!
not that cheap.
my advice is do it this way dont bother with the m3 prop but that my opinion.

I'm fitting an S50B32 with the 5 speed gearbox from an E36 M3 3.0. For this I can use the E30 M3 propshaft but I have also been told the E36 328i one will fit with the centre bearing from an E30 fitted.
I wonder if this will also work for you?
