Universal exhaust hangers....

I need to mount my rear exhaust section and I was hoping to use the original E30 mounts - the 2 for the rear box and the one off the rear beam.

I will need to add the hangers to the rear section, but I dont have the first clue where to get universal hangers.

Ive seen them in a very old Demon Tweeks catalogue, but I cant find them anymore. Anyone got any ideas?

I looked through the Jetex site earlier and can only see clamps. I might have to make something from the E30 straps Ive got here.

Halfords sell Powerflex uprated exhaust hangers. I used them to hang my BTB.

This particular issue was a ball ache when I made up the exhaust in the summer, the rear was sorted by chopping off the oem hanging bracket and welding it too the backbox, I could only use the one as the backbox is half the size of stock The gearbox mount was fabbed up as a rest and bolts to the stock holes with a small section of pipe, cut and eased into shape. I've had no issues so far, even added a extra hanger on the rear beam as it was a little too low but it's aweful looking, but it does the job .

Mark - thats what I might have to do. The gearbox mount shouldnt be a problem, its just the rear section.
Although the box I have is about the same length as an E30 box, Ive moved it towards the rear of the car (and shortened the tailpipes) to help with the subframe clearance. This does mean the box misses the second mount by about 2-3", but I think I should be able to fix something to the pipes instead.

Is that a Jetex box you have there? Any issues with them? I will be ordering a few bits from them in the next week.

Yes, Jetex turbo one, there's a few diff types, however this is what they sent me It's tiny but does the job and isn't really that loud and no issues so far, welded up ok and after some paint it looked fine.

Cool. Will be getting a few bends and a couple of the small silencers I think.

Slightly off topic, but what kind of welder do you use? Ive been looking at a few 150amp Migs for around £200-£250, but Im not sure if they are suitable. I have a mate who reckons I should get 200amp minimum (I trust what he says as he welds for a living), but 200amp Migs are big £Â£Ã‚£.

150 amps should do most jobs with metal up to about 3mm(1/8") thickness i'd have thought ?

You can get off with welding 4mm with 130amps

TBH, if I got a welder I would only use it for tacking stuff together, like the hangers onto the exhaust etc. Any major welding would be done by my mate.

My exhaust could be done easily if I could tack the hangers into place to make sure it hangs right, before taking it to my mate for welding proper. At the moment I have to mark stuff up, take it to his workshop to be tacked, bring it back home to make sure it fits etc etc - its about a 20mile round trip and its a right PITA

It's tiny but does the job and isn't really that loud

It may be a lot louder on an NA engine, as the turbo takes a lot of the noise out of the system. I've got a pair of huge silencers on my car, and I wouldn't want it any louder.

yeah have some jetex parts for my exhaust!

all 3 inch stuff.

i need a big centre box as the back box is tiny got it all wrong.

that bracket looks really good fozzymonster i dont think i will go for anything that good to be honest.

no time to do it at the moment.
