Looking for advice for my M40 316i.When I put my foot down there is no power! It runs really well,is fantastic on petrol,it ticks over at a steady 700ish revs and revs reasonably well when standing still.
The problem comes when driving it.Put it in first, clutch out, throttle down and it just goes really flat, struggling to rev!Anyway carry on trying to accelerate, then when it reaches about 3000rpm,its as if someone has flicked a switch and it all of a sudden kicks into life, but then its time to change up a gear and the whole process is repeated.
I have changed the inlet manifold gaskets, air flow meter and hose between AFM and TB,but none have made a difference!
Im thinking its probably a sensor, but?
I have checked the obvious,Air leaks etc,but without putting it on a diagnostic machine,it got me!
Please help guys!Got to drive from Devon to London in it next week, and dont fancy it right now! :?

Is this a new problem or has it gradually got worse?

Have you ever had anything "adjusted" on the fuelling?

Could it be fuel starvation or knackered injectors?

If it starts to pull ok at 3k where does the power stop? I dont spend much time out of the 3 to 6k powerband which seems ample for me.

Wouldn't be a clogged fuel filter would it?

Had a similar thing with my old volvo.

For the Ԛ£5 or Ԛ£6 they cost, it's gotta be worth a try :)

Ade-nothing has been adjusted, standard apart from S/S exhaust.Problem has gradually got worse over time.Dont get me wrong,I dont expect massive performance, but if i dont let the revs get upto 3000ish then I might as well get behind it and push!

defo sounds like a fuelling issue

as turbo-brown says, fuel filter is worth it for Ԛ£5-10!

also check to see if the Fuel Pressure Regulator is delivering a constant stream of fuel?!

could also possibly be a camshaft issue-may be worn?!
