I fiddled with this screw a while back and i think this is possibly why my idle is a bit low ~500 rpm. does anyone know which way i need to turn it to increase the idle. after the l-jetronic it looks like the idle control valve was introduced.

Sounds like it, if you screw it in (clockwise) with the engine running the speed should pick up.

having flick through the hayne's and bentley's books i have come to the same conclusion, they don't mention direction though so cheers 4 your input.

These screws are preset, and should not be tampered with, it can lead to complications later as advised by a bosch guru i know!
