hi, i own a 316 with a 1800cc m10 engine, but i just bought a 318I m40 engine and i would like to swap these engines, but i'm having trouble with the loom, i've checked the fuse box and lucky for me they are the same, just as the socket that is just at the right side of it! can anybody tell me how to connect the loom from the m40 engine to the fuse box and socket where the m10 engine whas connected to??? i do olso have the fuel tank from the donor but it's the same one like on my e30, the only difference is that there is no fuel pump in it!!!
it would be great if someone can help me with pics, details etc etc.

Hi dave, so to clarify..
you have a prefcelift carb'd M10 1800 in the car @ present, and with to swop in the M40 from a post 88 car.
you'll need the tank, pump, fuel lines and complete loom from the M40 car, TBH dude your car is lacking 95% oof the required parts for the job, and its a major undertaking that will require almost a complete loom change, BMW like to swop connector types between model years and ranges , so although possible, perhaps a major headache ?
TBH, the M10 is a better engine, less Torque but simple, reliable and strong.
source an injected unit of the same type and from a similar age car and serve the M40 to someone else.
FYI you'll need the M40 gearbox and prop too, more hassle than its worth IMHO dude, Sorry.
