I swopped my E30 325 for an E34...never looked back...a decent E34 is so much more car for the £ IMHO

That 540 looks very nice, didnt these suffer from the old nicasil issue? i guess if its still running well now at that mileage, its all OK

A decent E34 is a lovely old thing and simply the best value second hand BMW you can buy. If you can get the chassis number, give BMW Customer Services a call and they can confirm if its been changed to an Alusil block or not. Look for evidence of the ATF being changed as these gearboxes are allegedly "sealed for life" but fresh oil and filter every 60k will prolong its life.

IMHO whilst an E30 is a fun car to drive, an E34 is in a different ball park and a much more modern and classy motor. They still look fantastic too, especially the V8's with that wider grille.

Yeah, but I think most of the nikasil blocks were recalled weren't they? and like you say, if it's still going now, it must be ok...

What puts me off buying another e34 is the electrics - my old one was forever telling me my brakes were faulty, or my lights weren't working, or my coolant was low. When in actual fact, it was all fine!

If you wouldn't mind a 520i, my good friend is looking to sell his soon, it only has 70,000 on the clock and is in MINT condition, i can't pick a fault with it. It does have alloys, been lowered, parking sensors and is a 94' M Plate in Silver. The car looks a lot more impressive than this one on ebay, so if you are interested let me know...

sorry casper, hes moving on to the Jap scene  , trust me I've tried to talk him out of it but what can you do, the good thing about the jap cars is the heavy availability of parts for a ridiculously cheap price, you can get some serious power for little money.

I can't believe it! I missed it!!

I spose that's what comes from being at work, and trying to be sneaky by getting a last minute bid in! winkeye

Oh well...

Ajay325 - Got any pics of said motor? TBH, I wouldn't really consider anything under a 525i, just cos they're big heavy beasts, and need a big power house to get em moving, but for the right price I may consider it...

Yep completely different ballpark and almost pointless comparing them. I had 2 x E34 M5s which were great cars but have come back to E30s for my 'fun' car.

E34s are great motorway cars but the front wheels are connected to the steering wheel via a length of al dente spaghetti.

Lad over the road bought a 525 a few months ago and he's spent more time working on it than I have my E30!
Though it is a very nice looking car.

All current cars today is a much better car then a E30 for it purpose to only be a cars. The E34 5-series is a car who still looks good and modern even if it is 10 years since it left the production line. But what makes me love the E30 is because its an E30 with the old school german quality and design. Even here in Norway where cars cost the same as a house, you can get an old E34 for around £1000-1500 and that is good value for the money!

520's are road blocks, i've drove a 24v auto once it was shocking. The manuals aren't alot better!
