Vibration/Judder in 1st and 2nd

Hi

While accelerating hard in 1st and 2nd i experience a vibration/judder through drivers seat, don't know about the others as i never sit in them. The vibration doesn't appear to be there at half throttle or in the other gears.

The only thing i have done recently is have new tyres fitted to the front and the front tyres rotated to the back. Could the vibration be caused by the tyres now on the back needing to be balanced?

the tyres only produce vibrations at high speeds, not them..could be your ball joints and/or wish bone bushes, poss steering rack or track rod ends...

Hi mate, i have a similar problem, although i get vibrations and rattling running up my gearstick in 1st and 2nd and then it dies down in the gear changes after that. It could be your gear box or propshaft, i found there was a bolt missing from my propshaft coupling although it could be something else altogether. Get it up on a lift and have a good look or get someone to do it for you mate. Good luck!

I don't think it is the track rod ends (changed them) and it feels as if its coming from below and behind.

A couple of months ago i changed the clutch and diff, while i had everything apart i changed the doughnut behind the gear box but not the prop centre bearing.

Could it be this and the wear is only noticeable as everything else is tightened up?

Did you fit the doughnut with the arrows pointing to the flanges?
Did you split the prop in half?

most likely it will be the propshaft mount/bush whatever you call it. i had the same problem last year on my cab, changed the bush and it sorted it. its the round circle bush.

Hi Brian,

Do the arrows have to point at the flange on the gear box or the prop? I didn't split the prop when i took it off and i didn't realise until about a month after i had refitted it that i should of slackened the centre joint and adjusted the prop to fit correctly. I have subsequently done this but it doesn't of seemed to of had an effect.

Could i of damaged the doughnut by driving with it install the wrong way around? Could i of damaged the prop by not adjusting it properly when i refitted? Could it just be a coincidence that the centre bearing has gone?

I'm starting to think it is something prop related. I'm not sure of the best way to fix it, new doughnut (again), new centre bearing or new prop?

when I took mine for MOT I thought it would just be the centre bearing but it turned out I needed another prop, unfortunately I wasnt there so I dont know how serious it was

Arrows should point at whatever flange they are bolted to, and the doughnut will have a shortened life if fitted wrongly. Damage should be obvious though.
If you haven't taken the prop apart, then you shouldn't have upset the balance.
You will have been pulling the centre bearing mount around when you changed the doughnut, so you could have caused further damage to one that was already failing.

Just to clarify the arrows should point towards the head of bolt or in the direct the bolt is going through?

What are the symptons of the centre bearing going/gone?

If I have damaged the prop, do i need a prop from a 325 or can i use one from any e30?

325 prop is a different length to other E30 props.
The arrows on the doughnut point towards the flange that each particular bolt is bolted to.
Whether its towards the nut or the bolt head depends which way the bolt is fitted.
