Frameless Doors

Ok now this probably sounds like a stupid question, and has probably been asked before but after a few searches I can't find it. Maybe at the old forum. So here it is:

Firstly will the E30 convertible (or cabriolet or cab) doors bolt on to an E30 2 door saloon (or sedan or whatever else it is called) and do they have the same dimensions?

Secondly can the doors be made to work on an E30 2 door saloon? Can extra rubber seals be added or something? What would be required to make them work?

Also I know that the convertibles are also pillar less so that might need to be considered too. I don't want to make my 2 door saloon pillar less so I want to know if the can fit with the pillar and everything still there.

I just thought frameless doors might be nice.

Pillarless doors are very nice, tends to be found on expensive stuff.
The E46 coupe has em, doesnt the E36 one too?

Its probably worth a try, altho if a straight cab to tin top door swap was possible i reckon it would have been done years ago

It will require major mods, you will have a quarter glass on the front which i don't like at all, somewhere for it to seal, custom made windows which would have to be bigger, moddified runners, electronics to make the window drop a few mm to open etc etc i

So the windows are not the same size? I don't like the quarter glass much either but I can put up with it for frameless doors.

I know other BMW's with frameless doors drop the window open a couple of mm when the door is opened and then put it up after the door has been shut to get the best possible seal but would that be absolutely necessary? I could just do it by hand, wind it down a little and then wind it up, but that probably isn't convenient.

Anything else? Or has anyone tried it?

shame the drivers' window doesn't always work though, pillarless or not!

I thought the MR2 pillarless windows were a very nice touch. The clicky buttons for the interior controls were a bit silly tho
