Wipers gone mad

check the switch on the column. might of come adrift inside causing to go to fast wipe.

Nothing wrong with the switch, it's only a couple of years old, and this has only happened since the battery has died, and the car has been jump started after not being run for a couple of months.

Sounds like a short on the motor if it runs permanently. If you have a spare one plug it into the connector and see if it works OK.
I'm not completely perfect.......there are some bits missing or broken.

Assuming the wipers stop when the 'relay' is removed, the problem must be with the column switch, or the wiring between it and the 'relay'.

does the relay click when you pull it out of the board and again when you plug it back in? sure its not the fuse board?? i had a similar prob with my mk2 golf, the fuse board was corroded and shorting out inside cus there was water dripping on to it when it rained from the leaky windscreen seal!!!
