Have you tried getting someone to hit it with a hammer and extension bar while turning it over? :)

Some times you can take them off and clean them up to get them working again.

What happens is the cog on your starter motor runs on a shaft, normally when the started is engaged the cog slides on the shaft to mesh with the gear teeth on your fly wheel and turns your engine over then slides back when the engine fires or you release the ignition switch. The shaft and cog get gunked up with shit so it doesn't slide on the shaft to engage the fly wheel.

It's a pain in the arse job getting the starter off :(

I don't know if the starter's are pre-engaged or inertia type but you could try sticking the car in gear and and rock it to turn the engine to release the Bendix. Assuming of course it is stuck on. If it's not even throwing the pinion then sounds like a clean up job or replacement.

Other than that you could use the good old persuader!

Mine does this, but only sometimes.. Starter spins, but then engines not home.

I was told it probably is the flywheel missing a couple of teath. If i put it into gear then out again and try again its fine...

This is why i have a new flywheel ready and wating to go in.... its also lightened though!

more likely starter than missing teeth flywheels are pretty strong!

my old 3.5 engine did this probably 3 of 5 times i ever turned the key! - starter spinning but no engagement. just keep trying and it would always start eventually.
just something wrong with the starter/solenoid, the flywheel was perfect.
