e30 e36 m3 conversion

hows everybody doing new to the site and have a few questions,currently driving an e36 m3 3.0 but have just bought an e30 316 coupe shell and thinking of doing a conversion.im sure this question has been asked a thousand times,but just need to know the basics required to do this conversion.any help would be great.thanks.oh i'm thinking of using a 3.0 engine and box.cheers

welcome. your right it has been asked a thousand times. and then some more.there will be plenty info if you do a search.the basics are remove the engine from the donor car, remove engine from e30 then fit m3 engine to e30.

You'll need a 5 series M50 sump and oil pick up for it, then the engine will just fit straight in. Adding the manifolds is when the fun starts.

does the stock m3 sump not work???manifols fun
always something!!!!what about the gearbox prop and diff.will the standard 5 speed fit in.sorry for all the questions

E36 sump is wrong end of the engine. E34 one fits perfectly!
E30 325 gearbox will fit, but the E36 M3 box would be preferable.
Various prop options are available, and the diff will fit OK but is the wrong ratio for the non overdrive fifth gear of the E36 box.

The words manifolds and fun are NEVER used in the same sentance in this house anymore (damn, I just did). I got reamed by BTB but it's the mut's nuts and will mean the engine shouldn't loose any power from the E30 swap. See the thread in the group buys thread.
