Another M30 3.5 is born 2006... going in the tourer now 2011

1/8npt is a silly common thread for pressure gauges, demon twonkers would be able to bend you over sufficiently for another convertor if the audi sensor you have is different. Theo i just went to all that effort of looking on real oem to be beaton to it
Silly bastards put it on the oil filter housing didnt they!
Oil pressure switch is on the inlet side of the cylinder head right at the back (dangerously close to the bulkhead!)
Will check out Demon tweaks, cheers dude.

yeah cheers for that Theo, just been trying to find thread of audi press sens without luck, but it does look the same. hopefully Buster will see this and remember the audi sensor thread! 1/8npt?
I hadn't got as far as working out where the temp sensor will go. it really wants to be somewhere where the oil's hot and flowing i think, i.e. not the sump perhaps? I don't think the location in Buster's pic will see much oil flow...
I'm not sure.

Oh right realoem pictured it on the filter housing, perhaps the earlier/later models had it there. I shall have a look on my turd to see if I can spot where it takes it temperature reading from. Although to be honest whereever it is, it isn't to clever. Never really gets what I would call warm.
Anyway, enough off topic from moi.l
Wyh is that all of our 335Is are off the road except Charlie's!
Well done Charlie, glad it worked out well.
I'm really chuffed for you!
Ric325i - I had trouble with mine on initial start up with the engine flooding after cranking it for a while, just a possibility!
Great work on all cars going on here guys!

Sorry I said last time I wasn't going to go off topic anymore, but this may benefit toby and theo and others possibly. On a 93 audi 80 quattro the gauge senders are an m10 x 1 thread for both oil pressure and temperature.
Oil pressure sender: part NO: 049919563B price: 55 euros!
Oil temp: part NO: 049919563B price: 10 euros
Sorry the prices are in that, take them with a pinch of salt as I dont know how reliable they are. Similar to the normal conversion of 1:1.4 i suspect.
Here is an Audi Parts cat for you all should you need it. You need to register to get to the part numbers/thread sizes etc.

Cool thanks Jon
that's why i was so surprised to win those two sensors for £4 lol. of course, being ebay they probably won't actually work...
so i take it (being really thick) m10x1 is completely different to 1/8NPT, and the ebay link Theo posted might be no good if my sensors are M10x1?
i think i'm just going to bodge my sensors into my turbo feed line. i bodged the rest of the line and fittings together with the welder and it hasn't started leaking yet
Sorry for going way off topic Charlie
allthough at least it's mainly 335 related!

I'm not certain, but I think toby you could use this one
http://www.demontweeks.co.uk/products/P ... e=LMA050/M
Select 12 x 1.5 and it then gives you the audi 10x1 oil prssure sender one. BUT i am not sure whether it then has another female 12x1.5 to screw your BMW pressure switch into or if it gives you an audi one? Does that make sense?
LOL at the possibly non working senders.

Aah, my mistake then!
Have you had the car on the rollers yet with the new throttle body?

No worries dude, it's all good usable information, your dial install looks goodToby_Unna wrote: Sorry for going way off topic Charlieallthough at least it's mainly 335 related!
Pleased to see that you got your 3.46LSD then Andy and new throttle body?? I do remember a while back you had a thread about an alternative TB that you where trying, I take it it's installed and working then?
Good luck Martin getting yours back up and running, do you reckon you'll have it turbo'd for the pod? it would be cool at some point to get all our cars together as there all so different but around the same engine. Mine - completly standard 335i, Andys - heavily modified N/A, yours - turbo'd and Tobys - turbo'd & throttle bodies We'll manage to cover the whole spectrum of what's possible with the M30.
My future plans are MS with maybe a supercharger

Great write up charlE30. Hope to be starting mine after Gaydon .Do you have any pics of how you connected your
E34 down pipes to the 325i system. May have a E28 rad going spare if you still want one, depends on what i can fit in my car.

time for another slight off topic...
andy, have you checked the diff speed sensor wiring? mine was totally screwed so i had to fit a new connector - that could be the cause of the dead speedo. i have a partly dismembered instrument cluster with a good speedo that you can have if you want.
on a happy note, i took mine for the MOT yesterday and it failed.... one foglight bulb, 2 rear ryres (they were bald BEFORE santa pod last year
) and the CO is just out at 4.2%
not bad!!!
oh martin, take back what i said about your diff, i reckon it's on a par with a boeng 747 on takeoff!!!!

Gareth, quick fix for your CO if it needs to be done within a week for a free re-test, cause a slight vaccum leak and itll rocket down
Also if its idling slow, speed that up and it should pass too. Obviously finding the problem should be addressed once you have time.
The rest sounds easy.
Charle30, cool project, i remember this when it started. Back in the day!

No, but it's not far off being done.Have you had the car on the rollers yet with the new throttle body?
The lastest daft little job was to bolt on the the block of alloy that the TPS spindle adapter sits in that TurboBrown kindley made for me. Drilled/tapped/bolted it down to find the TPS wouldn't go on due to the bolt heads, ordered some SS allen bolts, counter sunk them in and it's ready for the TPS.
The TPS spindle adapter converts the TB from a flat blade type thing to the normal euro(?) D shape.
I'd best get my arse in to gear because i want it sorted and mapped for the pod !

It's defo the dodgy wiring, had a quick play cleaning the connector up but it didn't sort it, thanks for the speedo offer thoughgareth wrote:time for another slight off topic...![]()

Did you get a new connector from the dealers ?
how's the new ratio then Andy, guess it's hard to know without a speedo to back the feeling up!
i take it the new LSD is nice and quiet etc etc?
here are my fumblings and bodgings from today, sorry (again) Charlie, doesn't seem worth starting a new thread!
new gauges fitted, badly, into my knackered centre console. if you squint really hard you don't notice the black electrical tape covering the holes where the MS used to poke through
volt gauge naturally ousted in favour of something more suitable
from sitting in the drivers' seat the position looks fine in terms of read-ability etc. what a mess though! when i started i was thinking i would soon pick up a better centre console and make a decent job of it, but now they fit i think i've already lost interest in that idea!

then i found some hammerite to paint my caliper hangers before they started rusting. unfortunately I could only find gold, and I think it looks pretty horrible

need to buy some silver paint i think!

nope! whenever i break a car, i cut off every electrical connector i find and throw them in a box. i think it might be a foglight connector. i just rummaged til i found one that fitted. do you want me to have a look and see if i have another? there's 2 E30's and a E32's worth in there, along with every nut, bolt and clip that came off. it saves so much time when you lose / break something small.Andy335Touring wrote:Did you get a new connector from the dealers ?

Yeah, no whines or knocks thank god, like you say it's a bit hard to judge with no speedo but the in gear acceleration in 5th in between 60-80mph(ish?) is a tad down but it feels better cruising at 80ish. 80 onwards is fine once the revs pick up a bit. The rest of the gears are fine, 1st is still a bit too short so pulling off in 2nd for 90% of the time is still the norm.how's the new ratio then Andy, guess it's hard to know without a speedo to back the feeling up!

if all goes to plan, i'm putting a mutant 3.38:1 LSD together
got to be the ideal compromise i reckon.

Looking really good Toby, love the dials and brakes. I'd imagine they'd be more essential with the power you must be putting out
gooner1 here are the piccys of how to bodge a 325 system onto the E32/34 downpipes, hope thy help

E34 downpipes in place and cut to the desired length with two slits in to enable the clamps to close it up.

Chopped up E30 downpipes, unfortunatly for me at the time I only had my stainless steel scorpion pipes which I cut up

All bolted up with plenty of paste

Sleeper style 320is backbox (not in final position) all a bit of a bodge really but it works well.
