Don't even need to jack it up: if you lie on the ground, and look under the front bumper/spoiler, you will see a hex bolt on the front of the sump, simply undo that, put something underneath to collect the oil, and out it comes. Also change the filter, which is very easy, as it's an element filter, so you only need to change the element.
p.s.: I recommend you run the engine for a little while so that the oil moves around and collects all the dirt laying around, but like said, watch out not to burn yourself. Just a few minutes really. And let it drain for quite a while if you can.

Hot oil drains better and more thoroughly tho.maxfield wrote:There will be a bung on the sump, undo that with a bowl underneath for it to run in to, you will probably need the car jacked up. Make sure the car engine is cool or you might burn your hands.

Do the reverse of this and all will be well
so true.... if you jack the car up it won't drain properly as the bung is the lowest point when the car is level, and warm oil flows more easily than cold oil

Depends where you put the jackdodgem wrote:Jon_Bmw wrote:maxfield wrote: you will probably need the car jacked up. Make sure the car engine is cool or you might burn your hands.![]()

on my 316 m10 I jacked the car up on the opposite side to the drain plug so it was angled towards the ground.
Be careful not to drop the drain plug into the bucket of oil which will be sat there, it gets messy trying to fish around in dirty oil for it, especially the 3rd time

You're supposed to wear gloves as used engine oil is highly toxic and carcinogenic. I can never find mine
And don't forget not to chuck the used stuff down the drain. I bottle mine up and take it to the recycling centre down the road.
