Total BMW done a buyer's guide on one of these recently - seem to remember them saying the 730i was ok but the 735i was the one to go for (same economy, better performance). It was Andyboy's car that they featured.

Driving them can be a real laugh. Obviously, that is, until you have put more petrol in/replace tyres etc. They have a very vague and light steering feel but that can also be fun. Loads of fun and loads of potential headaches with expense.

Yep I had one (e32 1990) as a run around between my e36 M3 and Alfa 156 GTA.... and no, its nothing like either of these two !!
Depends what you want it for.... if its fun I'd say nope, too cumbersome, sluggish, although the straight six sounds ok, but if its for getting from A to B in comfort with reliability I'd say "perfect"... I did about 10k in it with no problems then my Dad ran it for 3 years and 25k also with no issues apart from consumables... he replaced it with an e32 1994 V8 730i...
Hope this helps...
