fitting hard top

My new hard top arrived today. I am having difficulty in fitting it. Am I missing a couple of parts? There are 2 guide bolts at the rear on the hard top and 2 black plastic tube type guides on the car. The guide bolts sit into the guides easily but there does not seem to be any way of locking them. Any advice would be apreciated.
Joe.

the guide 'bolts' are pointed with a pin sticking out the side (I hope)
on the top in the recess in the hardtop covered by the plastic cover are two nuts
what you do is locate the pins in the sockets, adjust their 'height' by turning the wheel with teeth in it, then turn one of the nuts which turns the pin so that it locks into the plastic socket in the body of the car, then you tighten the other nut... or vice versa...
was that clear?
hey its nine months since I put the hardtop on

I don't have 2 nuts under the plastic covers, I have 2 black plastic sockets. Do I need to source the nuts from somewhere. When I put the top on the 2 guide bolts with the peices sticking out of the side fit into the sockets supported on the peices sticking out. Where do I go from here?

do you have a digital camera? if so take a piccie and send it to orangecurry@hotmail.com or post one up here (I don't know how!)
I can then go and look at mine and work out what is different, but it's hanging in the garage at the moment and the spiders might get me in the dark

I have copies of the original fitting instructions available.
Ring me on 07810 650 395 and I will post a copy out to you free.
Its in German but the pictures are pretty self explanatory.
BTW my hardtop uses an 11mm ring spanner and a special tool to adjust the height.
Will gladly talk you through it - what area are you in ????

I seem to be missing the 2 metal receiving sockets which were not fitted as standard. Is it a visit to the stealers or can anybody recomend another source

Joe - I'm not convinced - I understood every conv has the 'receiving' fittings as standard; they are under the black plastic squares. The electrics are there so that if you fit a hardtop, the rear 'blower' is turned off, and instead the switch in the dash would electrify the element in the glass giving you a heated rear window.
A photo or two of yours would really help... no camera?

Thanks for the diagram, the fittings indicated are definitely not on my car. I will have to source them. Any suggestions other than the dealers.

are you saying that from the diagram, parts 3,4,5 and 25 are missing from your car?
Do you have the black plastic square/plug part 22?
you'd be astonishingly lucky if anyone had kept these from a broken car, but it worth putting a post in the 'parts wanted' forum
otherwise lovely BMW (these bits might not cost that much....) or try Motormec.co.uk

I have the plastic plug, not the fittings underneath. Am going to contact the dealer later for availability.

fingers crossed for you
I'm really suprised - I'd heard that all UK cars had the fittings as standard.
Anyone else out there with a conv NOT got the fittings under the plastic plug?
