A previous owner has used some sort of engine shine stuff in the engine bay and now it has all gone manky and yellow. What would be the best thing to get it off because it's ruining the look of it?

a gentle steam clean will do the job nicely, spray some gunk onthe worst bits and in no time all the nasty stuff will be gone

bmw dealers used an engine laquer which made eveything shiney but quickly turned yellow. i remember thinking back in the nineties that this was a bad idea and time has only made it worse.

its one of the jobs i have yet to do and not one im looking forward to. :(
No longer self employed but still available for welding duties.

I had that on some bits of my engine (was the aged laquer also), i tried cleaning and it was a nightmare, so in the end i used a BRASS wire brush, came up a treat, i might even put a pic up later, cuz im well chuffed with it.

Also on some large areas i used a wire wheel attached to my drill to make it quicker... Again using BRASS as it dont scratch up the part your cleaning
