As Gav says, the fuel consumption is nasty!

Things going wrong, but you have to expect that when it's used properly..........

It not being fast enough! :)

The fact that I have one eye on the temperature guage all the time because I'm worried about overheating.

If it's not a main car, then it's ok for me, and you have the time to fix the problems.

I hate to say it, but I trust the Civic so much more!

1. They Rust
2. They Rust some more
3. Noisy seats
4. Near to zero sound proofing
5. M20 drinks more than an E34 M5
6. Sports have Chav image
7. People always asking why im driving such an old car.
8. Horrendous brakes
9. Bushes get eaten too fast and weak balljoints
10. Something is always leaking
11. Crap internal acoustics for good stereo
12. Theres always an annoying rattle somewhere.
13. Clio 172's can beat a 325i and so can a Honda Civic Type R
14. When i look at my bank statement most of the Debits on there are for car repairs.

Im sure I will add to the list in the near future.

Easy to clean compared to an E34 though!

I thought you said a 325i could 'Keep up with one of those Honda things no problem' :)

A good list there Sal, I agree with most of that. My bank statement is mostly fuel or repairs/parts for my E30's.

A Honda thing kept up with my M3 which in turn beat a good 325i.

Off the line the sport has the advantage but higher speed acceleration those Honda things are damn fast.

These days my bank statement is just FUEL FUEL FUEL for the M5. Its my own fault, I drive it 500 miles a week. I really need to cut down!

I hate:
  • The rust
    The fuel
    The lack of power (it's a 325i)
    Squeakyness of the interior
All of this is ok what I really hate is not having enought time and money to do what I want to do to it.

Gotta be the fuel consumption.....had to take out a 2nd mortgage since I bought the car and I only do 12 miles a day!

But the rest of the car more than makes up for it! :D

Join the club. Ive got my engine mostly apart at the mo as the head gasket or head is gone.
Just hope I dont have to get a new head as it will be fun finding one and then paying for it.

Then I have to sort the leaky fuel tank.
Then fit new bushes to the front as the steering wanders at high speed.
Then sort the scratches on the bumpers.
Its a never ending list isnt it! :D

The fact that it must be a lepper (spelling?) because no garage will touch them.

THe fact it costs an arm and a leg to buy genuine BMW parts :-(

Oh and its weight... when it does break down there aint no chance of a normal car towing it!

But other wise i love them! I now own(or half own) 3! yay!
only one is roadworthy though... gutted

1.the trim panel below the steering wheel! :x :x
ripped mine off last week as it kept on catching on my (size 12) shoes, now the headlight adjuster is held on with gaff tape 8O

2.rusty front wings (not good on a white car)

other than that I'm well impressed, easy to work on, all bolts etc release easily

so far, inc insurance i've still spent less on this e30 than it cost to buy me the Seat Toledo TDI i had before, and that includes new brakes/rear bushes/tax/oil and coolant :D

1) The insanely slow steering rack
2) The fact that mine's got no engine at the moment :(

However, despite the fact that it used to handle like shit compared to my old 205 GTi, and the brakes are LAME, I love it to bits!

I only keep the cars I like, anything that breaks down that I don't like gets sold so that fact that the engine died over christmas and I've still got it must say something :)

Those damn tappets spoil it a bit for me, apart from that....lovin' it!

What a negative thread this is though, we should do a "what do you LOVE most about your E30?" thread and we'd all feel a lot better about our cars 8)

At least the adjuster's not in the glovebox like mine! As it didn't work when my panel fell down (like this, at 80mph, behind the brake pedal, with me having to force the pedal down and snap the panel to be able to slow down :clin:), I thought "what's the point?"

Apart from the car trying to kill me and hydraulic adjusters not working, it has to be:

1) The leaking driver's door which in heavy rain leaves the driver's seat (and only the driver's seat :x) soaking

2) The ride quality on 1970s suspension, and coupled with that the way any wheels bigger than the standard 14 or 15" BBS's give it the 4x4 look on standard springs

3) The rust that's appearing everywhere!

At least I can't complain about fuel consumption with the way I drive :teehee:

I envy those of you that have temp gauges!
Since the new lump went in i don' have one!! I need to get out there and start cutting wires to get it woking again 8O

Add that to the no speedo/milometer too and in rather in the dark

One thing i hate is the ongoing repair bills!!!

Just spent another Ԛ£200 on it today, (front shocks and loads of little bits n pieces from stealers to finish it off now it back on road)

hmm I love it but:

Slow steering is a pain
So is the rust
The way every chav in the world wants a race
The accelerator pedal the brake pedal are to close for my wide feet (better now with my new pedals)
F***ing exhaust manifold studs
It won't do 0-60 in 4 secs and 220 Mph

Other than that its fookin ace

It's supposed to be supported by a clip on the steering column by the clutch pedal (your's isn't), put on a 3 prong shelf on the bulkhead, clicked up above the blower vent and screw locked into the steering toward the driver. All that on top of the 3 screws facing the driver.

Rarely are they reinstalled properly. Without the steering column clip it's really likely to get caught on your foot using the accelerator or brake.

No hassle there otherwise!

All the right clips are in place now, luckily! :)

I told the garage about the "inconvenient" time it decided to fall down so they checked it over for me just to make sure....still a little paranoid though :?

1) "That" tappety noise....
2) Its a 316i (although the 35+mpg does go some way to help!)
3) Foot getting caught on trim as above!
4) Speakers are junk!
5) Squeaky glovebox (and I cant find out why!)
6) Other than that I love it! :D

There's nothing about mine I don't like. No tappet noise as the top end was rebuilt 20k ago. I was driving along the A14 recently at 60, sticking to 30mpg, and the loadest noise was the speedo/odometer cable! Having had two six cylinder BMs before I can't complain about the fuel consumption and sacrificed the minimal improved economy of the 2l for the considerably increased performance of the 2.5l.
The stereo's not brilliant but I have my old one I just haven't bothered fitting yet. The only bad thing is the constant worry that something expensive is about to happen. It's currently the head as she steams and idles erratically until warmed up.
