Can you fit an engine in the back of a touring?

Need technical Q/A then you're in the right place

May need to move an four pot engine soon, no box. Anyone done this? Needs to travel a fair distance, mostly moterway. My rear springs are standard but a fair bit lower than when it left the factory! Also is it true that having the engine anything other than vertical can drain/damage the hydraulic tappets?
