i'm looking into various engine conversions for a 318 touring.

From looking through the engine swap forum I'm after either a 318is engine or a 325 engine.

Obviously the 325 is the more popular conversion but since a 318is touring is a rare conversion I'm tempted by this but to chip and cam the engine before swapping it over to give it a bit more beans.

Is a tuned 318is able to touch a 325 in standard tune?

How well does the 325 respond to tuning mods?

ECU remap and a bigger throttle body can take the 318is up to 155bhp.

six cylinder all the way,dont waste your time trying to ring the nuts out of a 1.8,put a 2.5 lump in and enjoy,you'll only regret it when your blitzed at the lights by an old lady with a 323 auto!

whats the point in starting with a lesser powered engine that needs tuned up to even match the starting power of the 2.5. :?

you gotta remember that the touring is heavier to begin with so your power to weight ratio is down from the go.

stick an m50/m52 in your touring thats what i would go for.

m50 = 24valves (comes in vanos or non vanos)
s50 = e36 m3 (3.0 or 3.2L, both have 24 valves)
VANOS (Variable Nockenwellen Steuerung)
