obviously the exhaust and prop cover has to come off.....then you have to lock the rear wheels to get the hub nuts off,if the car has steelie wheels on its easy coz you can leave the wheel on whilst you loosen them,if not take the wheel off and put two studs back in the hub and use a bar to lock the the hub whilst you loosen the hub nuts, then take them out (bit of a bugger sometimes because there is a metal thing which go's around the nut to hold it from vibrating loose, the only way to get these off is to use a hammer and screwdriver! bmw gave me new ones for free!!!.undo the bolts at the end of the shafts where they meet the diff, six each side, then pull the shafts out,you may have to undo the bolt at the bottom of the rear shock to free them easier. youll see all the nuts that hold the diff on,undo all of these and the nuts where it joins the prop these take this out,not forgetting to undo the speedo sensor,oh,and its pretty heavy! then the prop is easy, just undo 3 of the bolts where it attaches to the gearbox and the two nuts that hold it under the body and shes out! then the gearbox is about 6 bolts plus the star shaped ones for the dust cover underneath. youll need to disconnect the gear lever, just pull the knob, gaitor and rubber cover off from inside, then you'll see from underneath what you have to do,the whole jobs not hard just nuts and bolts!! i did this last week,i got the scrappy guy to tip the car on its side after i took the hub nuts off, made it a piece of piss!!
