Depends whether you're doing the engine change yourself or paying a garage to do it...
And whether you need to get rid of the Touring to reduce the length of jobs the wife has for you mate...

Seriously though, if you're doing the job yourself or getting help from a friend, just swap it. You have a good car that you know well now, no point selling it for something unknown.

Currently slumming it in an E46 Touring

buying a complete car would be the easiest solution but i believe the conversion is basically a straight swap. if your happy that you have a good base car then its probably best to stick with that as it might save any problems you might encounter with a new unknown car. i think you should have the same disc brakes all around and the heavier 51mm suspension struts that the 2.5 has already so none of that will need upgraded.

^^ Agreed, you have most of what you want already - the touring is pretty much plug and play.
M50/M52 swaps are popular and relatively straightforward. I believe they would offer the most performance and economy for the money spent, I'm sure others may disagree of course!
M30 Swap is a nice swap and I believe a little easier in some ways than doing the M50/M52 as the wiring is a lot simpler - I'm not sure how involved they are manifold wise, I do know they need fabbed engine mounts although these can be sourced ready made, although I admit I have never done one.
S50 (M3) swap is a hoot but is a little more involved and costly than all the aforementioned.
Not really a lot else to consider other than maybe V8 M60 power, or cosworth or Jap engines.
Pretty much every conversion has been covered on the Zone, get searching

(respecting the most pointless conversion ever) when ye mortgage is as high as mine an 2 kids wanting everthink in style running a 325 which i have done in the past wasnt feasable for the 400 mile aweek jobs i do hence the 320 having the little more power a sweeter sound and a smoother than a 318 thats all .

Not really back on topic, as this topic was started by someone else for a different matter. But if you'd like to do that swap then start a new thread on it in this section and I'm sure there will be some helpful advice for you buddytouringandy wrote:oh yes an bieng that little bit cheaper than the 325 any way back to the topic any info on this would be apprecieted thanks

I used to get 30+mpg out of my 325i
i get betta fuel consumption in my 32eight than my sis does in her 320i.. Capacity is only 1/2 the pic
