He's only around when i use my laptop

Progressing slowly... Still a chance its bent valves as its quite far out of time

Gonna try finish the wiring tomorrow and get a few bits ordered. Then its just a case of waiting on BTB and finding out about the timing..

What was that about the servo plates guys? I'm after sourcing a set. I have the plans as Dameon sent to me but I'd rather have someone else make them up as I dont really have enough kit to nicely cut a set out..

I managed to get a small servo and 25mm Audi master cylinder with a reservoir that looks like it'll work for £15. Sweet.

As for the internal bracket mods Dameon, other than following your build thread, do you have any sketches of the mods you made? Many thanks..

This might be a stupid question... But can i remove the wires that arent used when changing the engine loom connector to C101?

Spent a few hrs with it today, but lost the afternoon when my sister got kicked by her horse, so ended up having to sort them out myself

Still waiting on my servo which the cheque was banked for on the 5th..

Also, if i can just strip out the unused engine loom wires (ie ones unattached at the C101) if they arent a live or earth, and go to a 'junction node' with more coming off can the whole node be removed? Not done anything like that, just wondering if they are sat there idle now..

yes i know im talking to myself, but thinking on from that idea, i know what im getting at, but i dont think its that simple..

Its mainly a couple of large clusters of red/white or visa versa, and iirc red (live yes?) wires that are making me ponder

(Can picture Ian reading this and wincing as too what the hell i have been doing/gonna do with my soldering iron.. )

Of course you can remove unused wires from the engine loom, but are you confident that you can identify the unused ones?

It's funny you should say that

I would say there are not many wires you can remove as such (those red/white wires are very important), but you can remove a lot of the length of wire. As long as you make sure everything is still connected as it should be, you can cut a lot of the bulk out and still keep it functional.

If you never plan to fit A/C, you can remove a few wires, but they are only thin, single wires, so you won't gain much space. I guess you can also thin down the air pump (and associated valves) wiring, but this is more on the main loom than in the wiring box.

Dont worry, all ive done so far is cut and label in order to rearrange and shorten.. Started shortening some wires so its starting to look more presentable/understandable now

I guess i cant say never with the AC, but its unlikely i reckon.. I see air-con as something you'd want in a daily not a weekend 'toy'..

ECU is going in the standard position, Vanos on the shelf above. Ive got 2 thick black wires not quite giving me enough slack atm tho

My servo turned up this morning so will 'test' to check fitment tho im 99% certain its not gonna fit.. So put me down for a plate

The joys of ebay.. Servo isnt a Polo one, normal Golf one from the look of it. Every mk2 polo one ive seen is 6.5" Dia, this is 8"...

Also the master cylinder is too 'deep' for the servo, by about the length of the threads to bolt it on

I belive it is South African spec but I dont know about dealer availability. It really is stronger than a brick shlt house
I have had a few bangs which would of definately smashed the sump, as you can see by the grazes, mostly from uneven road surfaces at speed.
Its got to be the strongest E30 guard out there, it mounts on the subframe and chassis rails, I can jack the car up on it!

If the battery is in the front (as yours appears to be), then they both simply go to the +ve terminal of the battery. If the battery is in the boot, then there's actually a separate fused terminal on the bulkhead junction point for the smaller red wire.

What is the purpose of the smaller wire Ian? I have connected everything up to the terminal on the heavy wire.

As far as I know... that sump guard wont fit once the S50 is in there...

Well.. Bad news.. found it was 180deg out of time.. Timed it up and turned it over aaaaaaaaand nothing.. Nada, no compression, and a huge pop of flame out of the maf

Soo its head off later today to see the damage Tech reckoned bent valves..

Well began to pull it to bits today, but got as far as needing to turn the engine over to tdc.. and i cant, need the tool to turn it over on the front pulley..

kinda cant be assed with this now, taken this long, little time and £Â£ left and now this. Fed up and thinking things over.. Just insured it and everything

Ended up playing with the e36 instead

Need to take the Vanos off, drop the exhaust sprocket off and then take the head off now..

Why are you taking the head off? If you think a valve might be bent, but you have been cranking it over anyway, then just do a compression test.
Last thing you want is to have to buy new gaskets and bolts when they are not needed.

its been compression tested and had none.. its been leakdown tested and was leaking 95+% but we couldnt source where from.. not alot else it could be tbh

it wont even try and start and has been popping flames out the inlet. when you crank it over it doesnt 'fire' air out the plug holes, tho some does come out
