Have e30's reached waving/nodding/finger raising status yet?

Do you wave at other e30 owners beetle/mini stylee?
I've only had 1 nod in a year of ownership although most e30 drivers i see are 60+ with mint chrome bumpered 316i's or wannabe gangsters who are too busy looking dangerous to wave.
Out t'other day in my girlfriends dads old shape impreza turbo wagon got a wave off a new shape impreza saloon which i thought was a bit rich.
Are we a moody bunch or what?

think i'll stick to nodding, that way the other driver only notices if he is looking to see if you nod! would feel like a plank waving!
though one guy gave a very smug grin when he noticed me staring as he drove past, very very nice J plate saloon (dont see many of them)

Down here it seems e30 drivers fall into 2 categories - the e30 fanatic, and the e30 'old giffer'. I tend not to wave at the old giffers, but if i see a nice looking e30, I'll give a little wave, and normally I get a wave back!

Riding bikes i hated that nodding business, although now i would probably wave at someone who was obviously an e30 enthusiast, and was waving at me. I would never initiate the wave though, its not really my thing. I am concentrating on keeping the cigarette ash off my clothes and the car on the road.
People do "look" at the car though, although this could be through either pity or admiration.

I usually try if it's not an old gimmer. The worst though is when you get locked in a kind of wierd gaze with another driver as you both try and work out whether or not to nod, so we just kind of stare at each other for a few seconds, at which point i nod and he invariably then looks away making me look like a right nob.

I flash every E30 I see on the roads which evokes either a wave/flash back, a puzzled look, or just nothing at all

Thinking about it, people's attitudes to different cars are quite odd.
When I used the GT6 as my only means of transport, you could flash at ANY old car and get a wave back. Also, lorries overtaking you on the motorway would respond to your flashing them back in and give you the "cheers" with their indicators.
Driving the beemer is quite a lot different!

I dont wave. Whats the point? If he's into e30's he will have noticed yours, and vice versa. Why bother waving to let him know you've seen him?
Is it a vague hope they'll stop, get out and tell you how great your car is, a need for friendship or just a desperate craving to be noticed by anyone, even a stranger?
Is there some sort of prize for e30 spotting that nobodies told me about?

I am with Turbo Brown here,on the odd occasions that the Daimler gets an airing I always wave at other classics and usualy get a wave back.I have started to flash other E30's now that the zone stickers have been fitted and get either a puzzled stare or a smile and a flash back. The main point is that E30's are now getting a rare sight,so we need to stick together just in case we need roadside help....afterall,would you stop and help the guy that stuck two fingers up the last time you waved to him?

I wave and often flash. Noone seems interested apart from a nice gray tech2 that was coming the other way on the A64 once. You do see quite a lot around if you look.
I won't be flashing any matt black dropped tourings, since they're so common ;)

They should have joined the AA.
Much like I wouldnt expect anyone to stop if I break down. Why should they?
(oh and e30's aren't rare, I see them all the time, common as mud)

I'll be sure not to wave to any... erm, what do you drive?.... I wont wave to any cars with a big slobbery hound hanging out the window... or dogs in the back.Morat wrote:I wave and often flash. tbh i'd stop if it was convenient if i saw another e30 broken down!
I usually give a wave or a nod if i see another e30 - if it's an old person then they don't generally wave back, just ignore me or look puzzled (no offence to the older people here... which i'm getting close to). Saw a grey sport on my way home from work today with 4 lads in it - it was nearly stationary in traffic as i went the other way and as i noticed it the driver was pointing at my car - waved and got a wave back i think - was almost past him by then!
I know e30s aren't quite rare yet, but i only see a handful each week, so not common round here either.

i might wave at an m3, but not a normal e30. there's still a heck of a lot just being used as 'transport' by peopel who dont really care about bmws, e30s or being part of a comunity.it's just a car.
cheers,

Of course they are, well sports and m3's!
Had mine out yesterday, the first good day in weeks and there were sports, twincams, rs200's, m3's and cosworths everywhere. There was alot finger raising going on

One of the many reasons I drive an E30, is that I don't need to spend money on joining any such organisation.munky30 wrote: They should have joined the AA.
I have shared a couple of moody, shifty, acknowledging nods with E30 drivers, but no waving or finger raising yet!
I've had people come and ask me about the car in petrol stations and car parks and the neighbours are always stopping by and asking what part I've been fixing now!

I've had some flashes of lights, waving of fingures and horn blowing, but not necessarily from other fellow E30 drivers!!
Other M3 drivers wave and flash, I do the same. I have also had a couple of local M3 owners stop and talk to me in my drive.
Also I had a 318is driver wave out when I first collected my touring, but saying that, he could have recognised the car and didn't realise I now own the car.
