Weird one. When I was looking at my broken car I noticed a fuse out. no. 17 iirc - turned out to be electric windows so unrelated to the cars running problems but the weird bit is that I'd been opening either door to use the electric windows as even with the fuse blown when a door is open they still work. Given that they worked when the doors were open I'd assumed a wiring fault (mostly likely when I fitted the alarm :p) and just got on with it.

anybody come across a similar thing?

the EW are powered by 2 different fuses depending on if the door is open or closed.

Hoshy
The windows have 2 different circuits.
One for when the ignition is on and doors closed and another for when its off and a door is open.
This was done so you could still shut the roof or windows without having to put the key in the ignition.
Engine conversions, Auto to manual conversions, parts, servicing etc etc... For anything e30 call 07718 901737

Yes and no,

All one circuit but just has an extra relay for when the doors are open.

Would the ignition off window closure be standard on a 1990 325 SE? Currently it doesn't work on mine so would be interested in knowing if/how I can get it working.

Cheers

Was having a look at the manual and does Relay K5 have anything to do with it??(Missing)

Most definitely! K5 is the unloader relay for the windows, roof and seat heaters.

K6 isn't required unless either you've got aircon or someone's used it for some other purpose.
Probable explanation is someone pulled out K5 and accidentally put it back in the wrong place!
