Hey guys, just a quicky: I've been asked to sell a friend's 325 and I don't know what it's worth. I suspect it's worth a little bit, because:

325i H reg, maroon.
MOT until end of March.
Factory fitted sports kit.
Premium sound system, including factory tweeters in the mirror housings.
No rust except light rust on both rear arches. No welding required, just repaint.
Air conditioning, working.
FBMWSH to 116k, now on 130k
Nearly new tyres.
Great clutch, bushes, shocks, exhaust.
Only modification is lowered suspension.
Seats aren't torn or marked.
BMW BBS alloys.
Gearbox feels tight.
No tappet noise.
Feels rapid next to my 525i with the M50 engine (despite only being 170bhp to my 190bhp)

Does anyone know what it'd be worth? Thanks guys! The car won't be for sale on here for a while, so this is not a For Sale thread. I'll post one in classifieds when the time comes! Thanks.[/img]

Also, can any of you tell from a photo of the diff, whether it's an LSD or not?

Hehe, sorry! I just assumed there'd be a difference in the diff casing. Anyway, Clark Kent doesn't need x-ray specs, it's his eyes. ;)

If you want to find out whether it has an LSD then clean up the metal tag that is fixed to the top right hand bolt in the rear case of the diff. If it begins with an S then it is likely and LSD. The information and numbers after the S denote the ratio.

To save all that hassle I simply jack the car up on one side with a trolley jack and try to drive away. If it pulls away then you have an LSD, or if unlucky, a welded diff.

If the tag is missing then you can count the ratios by turning the input shaft and note the revolutions of the output shafts.

To answer your question in short, there is no way to know by the physical appearance of the diff alone.

Zedone,

Step away from the computer. Before you do, read my PM.

Back ON TOPIC,

That's a nice looking car, always liked that colour. A little tidying and she'll look very nice :thumb:

If the rear arches have started bubbling, its more than likely that it will need more than just paint.

why not just get in it and give it a load of revs and drop the clutch and light the tyres up, if it leaves 2 black tyre lines its and lsd, if only 1 its an open.

looks nice, and btw its calypso red not maroon.

What kit is that then? I had an E30 SE and it didn't have those sills, or that front/rear bumper...

looks like late se spec to me and looks a fair thing(nice colour). Before you say its only got rust on the arches check the sunroof and behind the number plate lights because if its got rusty arches i would be willing to bet it needs attention in those areas too. As for value assuming you have recent history and it doesn't need obvious work i would say around £1500 -1800. stick it out and get a fair price but expect plenty of timewasters who either don't want to buy the car or who want it for next to nothing.

Cool, thanks pnd.

Spoke to my friend, and the panel behind the license plate was changed and sprayed professionally because it had rusted. I've had a look, and it's a perfect job. So yea, you were bang on the money with that prediction! You know the cars well then? Hehe 8)

Recent history is there, BMWSH to 15k ago. I may Ebay it, do they tend to get their fair money on there?

Thanks! :)

That looks a very tidy thing. The later SE's with all the colour coding (mirrors, bumpers, skirts etc) still look a very classy motor and reprsent far better value for money than a tatty Sport. Nice colour too. Personally, as it is, I'd put it up for £1500. A decent manual 325i will always have a value and they're getting pretty rare now. With the arches sorted, the right enthusiast buyer would part with 2K for it. That way you rid yourself of all the tyre kickers and people hoping to part ex their Sierra Sapphires. Ebay is a curious thing, some go for peanuts whilst others attract bidders galore. Create a decent advert with plenty of well lit interior and exterior photos using a decent camera (not a mobile phone!) and you should be OK.
