better posted in the FI section mate, but dont think a diesel turbo would be any good, what engine have you got? have you got the bits needed to start, such as manifold, intercooler, injectors etc?? more info will be great

What engine, what characterisics do you want? Otherwise you'll get silly suggestions like this one from me:

Some diesel turbos are fine, a small holset should do.

if im right... the m30 3.5 doesnt need lower compression to be turbo'd.. so you will only need- manifold, a turbo to suit , intercooler, management system, downpipe to be made from turbo...

it´s probably not that high anyway.

you should check out the TCD website in the states, they cater everything to the M30 turbo

it will help, even the so called low comp m20 wont like more than 10psi of boost to be used daily.

because its low comp dosnt meen its "turbo" ready.

head gaskets go, head bolts stretch and head lifts, rings break down etc

i ran a low boost m30, 5 psi was fine for lots of abuse, 10psi it starded getting unreliable. cooling an m30 is on the limit in an e30, with a turbo it gets very hot .

^^ of course it will help mate, but can be turbo'd to run on the std comp, as you say though, more boost more probs.. and its not like you can say 5psi and no more, coz trust me, there will be a time when greed for speed takes over.. winkeye

no, just added piggy back ecu for extra fueling, it gave with 5 psi 265bhp and 315 ft/lb torque

i should have really but i'm builing a low comp engine now with stand alone managment and a cooling system to cope

should be runnng 1 bar and should get a reliable abusable 400bhp

A basic list would read:

Manifold - Finding one or having one made, expect to pay £500+ for a new one

Exhaust - You'll need a fully fab'd downpipe minimun, poss whole exhaust in a much bigger bore. ( Stock exhaust does not flow enough for turbos)

Inlet - Stock inlet with new gaskets, BBTB and silicone couplings, charge pipes, dump valve and intercooler, bigger injectors

Turbo - Go for something big, there are a few turbo calculators about, work out what your after and don't just buy the garret they recommend, there are other choices about and much cheaper too. Internal/external gate will dictate the manifold used.

ECU - You need one, control is everything, everyone has they're favorite ECU for individual reasons, ask about and go with one you understand or have support for, makes life easier when you have others to ask/share the info. Wideband is very usefull to have but ONLY if you're self tuning or want the info to hand, otherwise leave the tuning to the people that know.

Then there's the other important bits, suspension, brakes, clutch, engine mounts, diff mounts etc etc that all need checking and uprating to cope, there is no point getting to 150mph if you can't slow the damn thing down.

Then there are toys, like boost controllers, boost gauges, water injection, anti-lag etc etc, it's very easy to spend mega bucks on toys and accesories.

I'd say based on the first time the car was turbo'd I spent around £1500 on the engine and parts, second time round another £1000 on parts and since another £1500/£2000 on the car, mot's, tax, insurance, windscreens, head gaskets, hoses etc etc

I'm in for well over £5k and I know it, so does the Mrs unfortuantley, so be aware is IS NOT cheap but still I think it's all been worth it in the end.

Just hope anyone else who does decide to go down this road will take on all of the available info we have put together on the zone now, so many mistakes and mishaps can be learned from, like buying a £20 head and wondering why it never ran right........ that sucked ass.

HTH, Mark.

the M30 will ideally like a big snail.

Toby's M30 has a relativly large T4 on it but would still benifit from one of holsets finest.

HX40 ticks all the right boxes, 19cm/3 housing T4 fitment and many variations on trim to choose from.
