I've only recently got my e30 and im thinking of upgrading the stereo system but im just looking for some advice.

ive found a good headunit that i can put my ipod through - http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pioneer ... -5667.html

now im thinking of getting some decent coaxials for the front, but my question is regarding the back.

i was thinking of getting some speakers to just play midbass on the shelf, someone has already put 6.5" coaxials in so i can just replace these. Then getting something like the jbl 75.4 amp to power them all.

possibly at some point in the future i might put in a sub, maybe either the vibe cbr 12 or 15.

these are the speakers i have seen that i was thinking of for the shelf -
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine- ... -5918.html

or these - http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/dynamic ... -5508.html

which would you recommend? the latter can handle more power that the amp will have but im not sure of the brand.

thanks
kieron

Try and avoid JBL amps as they have a tendency to blow talking from experience so I decided to go for Genesis profile sub what a machine :!: :!: not had any problems in the past 4 years of owning it and they still sell it thesedays as far as components/6x9's I would recommend Infinity Kappa Series these are awesome and are not too expensive this is what I have fitted to mine, winkeye winkeye
But each to their own Good luck

I wouldn't bother with shelf speakers as they get will blown about by the sub when you get it, so save your money and just put some grills on to cover the holes.

thanks for the advice.

i think ill leave the rear speakers, i had thought about the sub having an effect on them but wasnt sure if the size of the boot would help lessen the effect. and i dont really have any passengers in the back.

i quite like the look of the jbl amps but im just a little worried that the power of it will blow the speakers. i know you can run a little more power than they are rated but most 5" speakers are around 70-80watts rms and the amp is 140watts rms which is a huge difference.

Also do you think that the 15 vibe black air sub would be overkill with just 5" speakers in the front? would the 12" be better suited?

I just want to get a nice balance of frequencies with a healthy amount of bass.

in my mini i used to have some 6.5" components up front and a vibe 8" in the boot which sounded good to me although on long journeys i would start to get a bit of headache.

thanks

Get the 15" and you can turn it down abit if needed.

Stay away from jbl amps they are poo. What is your budget for an amp?

probably around £150, it seems like most of the 2 channel amps around are aimed at powering subs.

what do you think of this blaupunkt amp for powering the front speakers?
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/blaupun ... -4801.html

do you recommend getting a seperate amp for the speakers and sub? or one to power both?

thanks for your help

Personally I would just power the components from the head unit then use the amp for powering the subs you can still achieve great sound without blowing the components, this is what I was advised when purchasing my equipment.
I will post up pics as soon as the garage are finished installing it to give you an idea as to what they have done.
Hope this can help you out
