Mtec 2 rear bumper
Moderator: martauto
Hi gazza.
This is where i am confussed.
But someone of the zone has told me that my rear genuine tec 2 bumper
will not fit my car (to the left) as my car has the old style back lights.
There for i need the other type of tec 2 bumper early version.
He wants to swap with me his, as he thinks mine wont fit when i come to it?????????????????????????

i thought there were 2 types ...tech 1 and tech 2...as far as i know there is no other type of tech 2 what age is your car its difficult to see is it pre or post facelift.....could your mate be trying to have you over to get the bumper off you ... its probably worth best part of £100
Hmmm thats what im thinking
My car is h reg 1990 and is pre facelift metal bumpers older style rear lights.
I,m no expert but if the later e30 with different lights and i think differnet back pannel
would suggest hes right???????????????????
Come on sombody i need to swap tommorow otherwise he wants to fit it!!!!!!!!!!!!

it'll fit perfect mate, the only thing thats different i think is the valance on which it sits on or is fitted to, but don't quote me as my car came with the kit fitted, someone on here will deffo give you more detail on what's involved, but you can have a look at mine...

that's what i thought!blingsta wrote:the only difference on the back panels is the cut out size for the rear lights!! bumper will go straight on mate... his probably trying to swap your tech 2 for his tech 1 ????

if you look in the tech articles (click the link at top of this page - articles) i wrote a how to on this (but for the newer cab facelift), the main difference between the older and newer cars is the rear wheel arch profile is different, so fitting a tech 2 bumper requires modifications as the bumper does not meet the rear wheel arch correctly..... but this i believe is NOT the case for the convertables, the convertables apparently have the facelift rear wheel arch profile irregrdless of their age, so fitting a tech 2 rear bumper to a cab should be straight forward, the only issue now comes from the mounting points, the facelift have different mounting points. this means you will need the newer mounts and you will need to drill your rear panel/valance so that they accept the later bumper mounts, its not hard if you are reasonably useful with your hands. there are also some side clips but as you will see in my article they are not really necessary.
Finally to fit a tech 2 to a tin top you can see here....
