head cast number

hi can any1 help me out. iv managed to get hold of a cylinder head which looks like it is out of a 2.5 cause i measured the valve and bore size. but the cast numbr is different to my 1. the cast number is 1277-731. does any1 know what this head could be out of and will it work with my block. i can only assume it is out of a 525 or sumthing as it is from a 89

afaik the only car with a 731 head in 89 would be the 320i - this head wont work on a 2.5 motor (885 head) because the combustion chambers are different.

they fit perfectly on a 2.7 though... ;)

thanks for that, any1 else know for definate as i have it sat in my garage and have trouble getting hold of a 2.5 head

885 is the correct weapon of choice dude.

731 is a defo no-no as boots stated before
