Hi there, I'm wanting to get rid of the sunroof cage on my track shitter - what is the best method of doing this? Looks to be bonded in with a few spot welds for good measure.

Advice greatly appreciated,

Theo

Excellent, just had a look at the thread and it's very useful. I think I may go for the riveted sheet over the sunroof hole for that added councilness.

Was it tricky to remove the spot welds holding the frame/cage thing to the roof skin?

I used a cut-off wheel without a guard to get at mine - i already had a roll cage in the car when i removed it.
I used the original sunroof panel, took the second skin off it (i think 18 contact welds) and riveted it in place with some spacers and then filled the gap with windscreen mastick.

Hi Theo.

I did a great job in removing mine. It resulted in a badly dented roof  Uncle Benz sorted it out for me. If you get stuck give him a shout on Northloop

Cheers djs, will take the guard off my grinder to make things easier.

LOL Gary. I heard that you had fun doing it, I shouldn't really laugh though - I'll probably do the same!

There is someone on e30tech.com who put abit of perspex over the sunroof hole to save weight and it didnt look to bad.

That's a really good link Ed, cheers for that. I don't know whether to use aluminium sheeting or perspex like in that link to rivet over the sunroof cavity.
