it has been loosing alot of water recently, i knew the rad was leaking so i fitted a brand new one, HOWEVER, the problem continued, the coolant light would come on 10-15 miles after topping up! it never got hot though and the temp remained just under half at all times. i had my thoughts that it was head gasket or even head
Today i whipped the head off to find the head gasket had blown, much to my relief!
However when i inspected the head i found that the water channels were pretty coroded, ill up load pics in a minute, also the 2 bolts that go in to the head at the front and hold the dizzy on are useless cos the thread is rung off in the head and i cant tap it, therfore i have to hold the timing cover on with a cable tie round the thermostat housing. The head has been re-built 25thousand miles ago though so i am reluctant to swap it for a 100k one i have. what would you do?
Also no6 piston area was covered in oil and the car has been smoking at high revs, i thought it would be piston rings worn but could it be this? pics to follow, thanks for the help
