Hi all, anyone done a DIY wheel refurb and colour change? Wanna do mine but change the colour, black or gunmetal. Any tips? Are the BBS alloys a pain to do? They look it. Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Mitch

Clean them, front and back.

Sand them, starting with a reasonably rough grit paper, and working down to a very fine one such as 800 grit.

Mask off the tyres and valve (paint will corrode the rubber on the valve).

Prime.

Sand with 800 grit again.

Paint.

Sand with 800 grit.

Paint again.

Sand with 800 grit.

Lacquer.

and with 800 grit.

Lacquer.

Job jobbed.

(this will be a complete pig with bbs)

Any cellulose paint will do.

What colour do you want them?

If its black, use hycote acrylic formulation paint and lacquer... its cheap!

you'll still need to fine sand them inbetween coats for a good finish.

just painted mine. i used a scotchbrite pad and panel wipe to roughen the original paint, masked em and painted em with 2 pack (no lacquer required). hasn't came off yet even after a jet wash.
