Shame to see the car like that, as others have said, you are OK, that's the main thing!
Back to what a couple of the others have said, were the police involved?
As Jon said, the lampost will have to be paid for, and if they are not aware, it will be classed as leaving the scene of an accident.
My local authority charges just over 1k for a lampost.

Talking from experience there Simon??
My mate also had a similar experience after clipping a kerb on a dual carriageway, sparked a 40ft lamp post clean out of the ground!

Erm, yeah, but not in the way you are thinking!Rosc0PColtrane wrote:Talking from experience there Simon??
I used to work for the electrical section of the Highways for my local authority, and now work for a recovery company who work for the South Wales Police, and pick cars like this up every day, normally a lot worse than this one though...

Does not suprise me one bit though. I think they have to prove you damaged it, but thats not too hard with all these photos...
I am a supervisor with a street lighting company and I see stuff like this on a regular basis.
It's probably gonna be more like £2k+ in this case once the traffic management costs are included (exit from a roundabout on what looks like a busy high speed road).
Taylor.

Bad luck I bet nearly everyone has been lucky and just gotten away with something like this at least once. Especially sad to see this in Norn Iron - not many 325 sports over here, the ones that are left have probably gone up in value by another grand

the insurance will cover the lamppost...
I can tell by experience...
I hit a lamp post straight out of the ground ( for my defence: it was only 3 feet in the ground so....ehmm ) a couple of years ago and it was completely covered by my insurance, I believe it was about 2000 euro damage to replace it.
I can tell by experience...

Gutted for ye, was a lovely motor too.

Hi,
This is a bit late, but Im happy to see you are alive man!
If you drove an small old Fiat like a Uno or a Mk2 VW Polo you would end in hospital...
First feel happy that you could walk away, it could be so much worse!
When its comes to the motor, its a sad picture, but look at the real life, its a car... Get your self a new E30 and make it even better that the current E30 you have now!
Mama BMW have made plenty of them in Germany so there is still plenty of cars.

I think 17" nankang tyres would be more of a factor than 17" wheels in generalCotty180 wrote:Gutted to see the pics, glad your ok.
Anyone think that the 17"'s might have been a factor, ie 15" might have been a bit more progressive and perhaps/mabey caught it?

318 IS. Sold.
Sorry to see this happen to you, as many have said your lucky to get out unhurt given the damage to the car.
If you can claim through the insurance do it.
I guess you'll be paying to get some decent tyres from now on.

just backtracking on this thread a bit but, Nankangs are just nasty cheap ditch finders
I put some Uniroyal Rainsports on the back of the 325 after some Nankangs and the difference was unreal, I actually had difficulty getting it to misbehave in the wet
