Awww man, that is terrible! Was always hoping to see your sport at some point, you dont live far from me. I remeber the first time i took my sport out in the wet (had to take her to the MOT centre), my dad warned me to drive like a "pussy." I hope the insurance works out ok for ye, what age are you anyway? Dont let this put you off, get your insurance money, another MINT sport and a 2 hundred quid runabout for the wet days!! Thats what ive done!

Thats a shame but it happens to the best of us fella, my m535i died in the rain only a month ago so I feel your pain.

The important thing is that your ok and you can move on. I made good money breaking my car, I reckon on yours being a good starting point for a reshell imo. In fact I know of a clean 318 2 door for sale in silver.

Nothing to do with me just spotted it the other day.

gutted. Looked like a very tidy car. Glad you're ok.

I don't think you should be blaming the wet though. Without being mean, you should have been driving more carefully.

These cars arent 'lethal' in the wet unless you drive them too hard.

If its raining, go easy, coast through corners etc etc. I have never had the back of my e30 or any car step out on me when I havent wanted it to.

i'm 22 dimebag not gonna bother with the insurance just gonna cut the losses and start again i'm not put off i loved the sport and i don't think i'll be happy till i get another one in the same condition.

if i was gonna reshell i'd be lookin for a sport with a bad donkey but good bodywork because the engine in mine was sh*t hot and was still runnin after i crashed her but we'll just have to see what the funds allow me.

Close call, count your blessings for that one.
Just out of interest whats the state of your rear tyres ? or were you just a bit too quick on/off the right peddle ?

Maybe you should consider something a bit slower untill you get used to all those crazy surprises at those speeds.
It will work out a bit cheaper as well.
Better luck next time

Sorry, wasnt having a dig at you per sé. As long as you learn from it then (in the grand scheme of things) its a good thing. Its a crying shame that such a nice car was the learning device, but the fact you're ok is what matters, its just a lump of metal.

One less sport must = about £50 on the value of sports the world over. So all you sport owners should be thanking him for reducing the sport gene pool and increasing the rarity, and thus value, of your cars.

I would never coast around a corner, even in the wet munky! Just feather the accelerator, surely giving it light acceleration is safer than coasting around a corner in the wet!

Surly you would be better claiming? Its sad how much money we pay for insurance in northern ireland and in the end its worth fuck all!!

Either or, I don't coast around corners, I do as you have said, just give it the appropriate amount of beans for the situation and circumstances. But for someone thats not confident with a rwd car then coasting into, around, and out of a corner is the safest way to do it.

DO NOT go into the corner then let off the gas/dip the clutch though.

i really don't know if claiming off the insurance is the best thing to do and i'm not entirely sure if its still mot'd so that doesn't really leave me much choice i need to search out the certificate and see for sure.

if it has no MOT then get it towed away and home, and don't claim on the insurance you will end up being arse sexed by the fuzz for that.

Tho how you don't know if its MOT'd or not is beyond me, I am legally responsible for 7 vehicles (I am registered keeper on V5 but not neccessarily the main user) and I know when each is due tax, mot, service ect....

Oops. I used to fit Nankangs on the rear of my Sport as they were the worst wet weather tyres I could find - zero grip whatsoever and perfect for sideways antics.

Superb if that's what you're after, not so good if you're not prepared and they let go at 6AM on your way to work. :(

Got to love Nankangs in the wet

My advice is go really fast into corners let off the power violently then give it loads of gas whilst hanging out of the sunroof throwing skittles at old people. But then every 325i I have owned has ended up with big skid related dents in so dont listen to me.

I want video evidence of skittles related incidents. I assume you meant the sweets, not the things bowlers and skittlers try to knock down!

What gear were you in that might give you an indication of speed. That looks like 25-35 impact speed to me tbh.

Whose going to pay for the damaged lampost then, surely this is what your insurance is for?

Also gutted for you, I was severly temtped to wack my diff lock on around a wet rounderabout yesterday but thought better of it. I'm glad after seeing these pictures.
