Hi all,

About a month ago I bought a '90 sport. This weekend I have started the project off by stripping out the whole interior, and cleaning it out/looking for rust.

I have so far this weekend:

Removed eyebrow spoilers,
Fitted heated seats loom/switches,
Fitted 6 button OBC (i chose this over a 13 button one!), and new bulbs,
Fitted wireing for amp and subs, all wired into the 'factory' hoops,
Re-wired some of the alarm/sensors to make it neater,
Fitted a trimmed in black parcel shelf with sony 4 way 6x9's,
Fitted a sony explode headuit, and sorted all the wireing, putting in universal modern car plugs,
Used 'gliptone' on all the leather,
Fitted some immaculate sport door cars,
Fitted an amp in the boot, running off battery.

Waiting to be fitted, and already bought

Full sport heated leather re-trimmed recently (came with car),
Nearly new full sport boot linings,
Brand new radiator, fan, uprated disks and pads all round and lots of other bits and bobs.

Going to get the rust sorted asap also.

Thanks for reading, just thought I would share this with you. I will post up lots more pics as the project (and problems!) unfold.

Paul

I like that colour hammorj, suits the E30 more. They are great headuits, and the DSO is quite 8)

Whipsy, no diagram, but what do you want to know? I can tell you where all the plugs etc go. pm me or ring me if you need any help with it mate.

Mate, the 318i engine went badly wrong, and maxfield is interested in the car for himself.

Dimebag - not getting re-sprayed, the whole car was done a year or two ago and was done fairly well by the looks of it. No scratches! I think the leather was done at about the same time.

Best of all im loving the whole project so far :D

Thanks oaky.

Like you say, not too much, thats why its a 'restoration' in inverted commas lol.

Wireing is taking ages, but im doing it neatly and carefully. All done now.

Interior will be finished tomorrow.

TO DO:

Needs some rust sorting by a body shop, not much though.

Needs new fuel tank

Oil leak sorting

New radiator and fan

New rear brakes need fitting, fronts done just before i bought it,

Speedo needs fixing, wire corroded,

Few other bits no doubt !

Interior done.

I have replaced a few broken pannels, and done the work listed in my first post. A lot of parts were not assembled correctly before 8O.

Gliptone has been used on the front seats to keep them soft.

All in one leather illuminated gaitor wired in

Image

New tax disk holder - alloy

Image

Testing out the heated seats - seems i wired them right! Leather gaitor i fitted also

Image

Seat backs are nearly brand new

Image

I havent finished wireing these in yet (forgot about this)

Image

Seat belts are almost new, so are still red

Image

I have had to replace a number of broken bits of trim etc also, i used new parts to give a nice finish.

Tomorrow work will begin on replacing parts under the bonnet.

Great work fella, where did you get the all in one illuminated M strip knob? All i can find is a seperate knob and gater. I've got an all in one but its a plain, non-iluminated one.

Thanks Max, the 318i will be gleaming.

Barry, the all in one thing came in the car mate, I just wired it in (in all honesty it was me that broke the wireing the day i bought the car! :o: )

Do the dealers not sell them?

Cheers

Update.

Despite the crappy weather i have carried on.

Fitted new radiator and fan. Old radiator was totally screwed.

Stripped down back end, machined any bits of light rust back to bare metal, and treated with anti rust paint (brown).

I re-did some of the seals, as there was a leak.

Then sealed up the holes somebody drilled in the floor to drain the water!! I used the same sealent they use in the factory, so you cant tell its ever been touched. I sorted two leaks, and sprayed the whole boot inside dolphin grey, and then lacquer.

Fitted almost new boot linings.

Fitted storage tray above battery.

So far really pleased, nice dry boot that even smells new :D

Thanks whipsy.

Just put in a spare with new tyre.

Found that the rear window is leaking still, so will be removing it later today and re-sealing. This has got to be 100% watertight!

Getting quotes on bodywork now also, will be sorted asap

Fitted some new window trims to replace the bent ones on passenger door.

I see bss325i asked you about the illuminated one piece knob and gaitor, I need one too and fancied the illuminated one but not sure if you can still get them. I know for sure you can't get the original striped badge for the top, you can only get the newer ///M type one, but I managed to pick one up on Germen Ebay :) . Car looks really well, coming on nicely :D .
