Good day.
I'm just curious... I just recently hada set of Hawk HP Plus pads fitted to the car, and I noticed that they are crumbling one the edges after some really hard track driving ?
Would this be a probem ? would it reduce perfomance, and what causes this ?
It is a std 325i calliper and disc, with Braided lines, and Motul RBF600 fluid.
Also is there a Ferodo pad that would be similar to the EBC Yellow stuff pad ? I'm thinking of trying it, but also curios about the Ferodo pad.

EBC yellows are endurance pads. The Ferrodo version would be the DS2500 or the harsher DS3000. The 3000 is a great pad but goes through discs pretty quickly and creates quite a bit of dust. I use DS2500's on a slightly lighter car to good effect. The pagid RS29 is a good pad in the same league as well. I would suggest possibly the best of the bunch.

Not heard of Hawk pads, but they don't sound too great, if they are crumbling. Some of my Ferodos do end up starting to crack, towards the end of their lives, I use them fairly hard though....
Just removed my rears actually.....

I use Ferodo DS2000 on my E36 M3 which is driven pretty hard on the road (I never take it on the track though)
I have found them to be very, very good compared with others I have tried. I would imagine the DS2500 would be great for track work.

Yes, if you use the Ferodos properly, you can see a set off in a day.
The DS3000s wear very quickly. The DS2500s last a bit longer, but don't bite so hard. Have you tried DS2500s and had fade?

what sort of money are the ferodo pads? im currently using greenstuff pads on drilled discs which bite really nice when theyre cold and around town but stopping from 100 ish isnt quite quite so confidence inspiring. im not fussed about pad life as i dont do trackdays yet...

I think I will give the Ds3000 a go, report back at the end of next week...
I plan on going with bigger callipers and rotors once my current 15" semi's are toasted, then I will be using 16" semi's so should be able to ge some 4 pots under there on a decent sized disc.

Ferodo DS2500s are about £130 for my car. Similar I think for an E30. Expensive stuff but well worth it over OE pads. It's like the difference between a beautiful sunny day, and a stormy night.

Hi Stevin, did you get it from powerbrake, because according to there website the Hawk HP Plus is specific for track days, maybe give them a call to ask them why they are crumbling.

only had the DS2500 in the rears so far were they seemed to work well may try them in the fronts as you suggest.Davenotouring wrote:Yes, if you use the Ferodos properly, you can see a set off in a day.

paying £120 for Ds3000 front pads and killing them each trackday is a bit to expensive for me may work out cheaper in the long run to go for a big brake set up maybe.???

I have had exactly the same thoughts.
I bought a big brake upgrade kit which didn't quite fit, so put me off, however eventually I will do it because £100 a trackday on pads alone is V. Expensive.

It would also appear that pads are cheaper for big brake kits

Yes I did get it from them... but I was quite impressed with the intial bite.Hyperion wrote:Hi Stevin, did you get it from powerbrake, because according to there website the Hawk HP Plus is specific for track days, maybe give them a call to ask them why they are crumbling.
but I figured I was running them 2 hot as I've hot hairline cracks all over my discs...
Oh well, got some Ferdodo Discs and EBC Yellow Stuff in the front.
another note, I priced DS2500 for the rear... and they were more expensive than the EBC yellows for the front... crazy.

Lol...
So my brake setup is as follows...
EBC Yellows
Std BMW discs
Ferodo Platunium (rear)
BMW Discs (rear)
Braided lines
Motul RBF600 Fluid.
Cant wait for the 15" semi's to be finished, then I can run on my 16" ones and upgrade the brakes to something bigger... pro some Wilwood 4 pots on 2 piece discs

Ok, so an update on the EBC Yellowstuff pads...
I must say I'm highly unimpressed with them... from the get go they didn't offer nearly as much bite as the Hawk HP Plus pads, and then to make things worse in the last session of the day, after offering the same amount of bite for most of the day, the brakes just suddenly lost all bite coming into a corner causing me to take evasive action gravel trap or Lotus exige... needless to say I took the gravel trap option.
I know it wasn't the fluid, as the pedal was rock hard and I've used this fluid in my previous track days with the Hawk Pads...

I'm in the position of needing new pads on standard E30 discs, I've got braded hoses and 5.1 fluid on EBC red stuff pads but the brakes are only OK so looking for alternatives
Carbon metalic and some better quality fluid..
By the way the bigbrake kit - was that Wilwood 4 pot kit?

Mintex 1155's and Pagid RS29 seem to be the pick of the PBMW boys
I have mintex 55's front and 44's rear on mine and they seem good from the limited track time the cars seen!
Running standard dot 4 in mine and regular changes every 2 outings, braided hoses etc
