Hi all,ive read the other thread and whilst very helpfull im hoping i wont need that extra wiring loom.Basically my tourings h/u wiring was, like most, connected by a blind chimp with one arm :? Anyhoo ive bought another cheap e30 this week that wont be needing its h/u wiring loom so ive removed that in the hope i can use it in the touring.

This is the replacement loom connected to an old Sony h/u-

And this is the one connected to the Alpine h/u i'll be using-

Should the red and yellow wires be connected like this?

My main question is,will this be as straight forward as simply connecting the new wires(red/yellow/black) like the old sony headunit was?It might be obvious to some but ive seen red connected to yellow and vice versa and really dont want to watch my car go up in flames!I know what im doing with all the other wires so no probs there.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Shane

ABout the red and yellow, thy are separate, the Yellow is for continous battery power, holds the memory and the red is Live (obviously) as for the loom fitting I cant say since I just wired my unit into the orginal wires since they were fine. SOmeone else probably knows about the loom.

Hope this helps.

Cheers mate,i thought it was odd that the red and yellow ones were connected.I'll separate those then and wait for some more info on the rest of the loom

Yeah a good idea since it might blow some fuses running the two joined, not a very good joint that, a good idea would be to terminate the wires with bullets like the res of your connectors and makes it safer from metal shorts. What H/U are you putting in, hope its not too flashy or are you aiming for a flashy unit.

Thankls

Is a link to my Dads H/U it matches the interior nicely, just to show a matching style.

Doesnt match the dash but im not that bothered,i have a few chrome bits in there and a Momo wheel so its not very standard. As long as it works ok i'll be happy.Im having lots of fun building custom enclosures at the mo too so i'll be posting lots more pics soon(assuming all goes well with the wiring!!!)

i had to join te red and yellow wires together to get the power to the hu as it wouldnt work with only one of them and the car only has one live since the old tape deck didnt need a memory (permanent live)
