Drive a slightly modified 325i, give it the odd boot here and there (difficult not to really!) but do make an effort to drive it sensibly where possible. mainly do urban driving, but I am a lucky lad if i see 100 miles out of Ԛ£20 of unleaded.

Is this the norm?

I've had my 325 for exactly four weeks, I reset all the computer data when i got and it's currently showing 20.4 mpg. That's 40 miles on a motorway each day; the needle sits at about 25mpg at 100mph. So i guess if you are driving urban, it would be less! The price we pay for a lovely engine under the bonnet - you could always convert to LPG???

Gav, have had mine 4 weeks too, never looked back once!

Every drive an experience

mine's chipped and cammed with fse power boost valve too, so probably doesn't help.

I look at the econogauge when driving and it's impossible to pull from standstill without the needle going to 12mpg

I've found it's all about driving style. Mine's a 327 Sport auto and it has a few mods.. It has loadsa torque so motorway driving uses less revs. I average about 27 mpg with a mix of motorway/town. I track it a bit and then get about 12-14 mpg. Just done an economy run Portsmouth/York/Portsmouth and achieved 33.6 mpg and probably could have made 35 mpg if I'd had the patience!

Mine doesn't often see much above 20mpg.

I never saw less than 29mpg town driving and could get about 35mpg on the motorway in my 325i.

Not booting it at every opertunity's only half the battle though, it's how far ahead you plan and whether you do everything you can to avoid stopping that can reap rewards in terms of economy and also on things like brake components :)

Snail?! :x

The 1.6's aren't slow you know, plus they've got better balanced weight distribution than the 6-pots!

Still wouldn't mind a 325i though

29 mpg in town???!!! WTF!!!??? Used to struggle to get over 20 mpg. changed the thermostat and now 25 mpg's easy enough, 29 mpg possible if I drive really really really REALLY gently.

I've just discovered my mate that owned the car before me fitted an uprated fuel pressure regulator (fse power boost valve), so that with the cam, chip, ported & polished, K&N and my heavy right foot probably explains why I see a constant 15+ mpg.

But it's soooo worth it!!!!

just got a 325 CAB...i get about 15 MPG,20 MPG if im lucky whilst driving URBAN..though ive got a modified Air-filter..

Changing Plugs and Fuel filter could help a bit, having clean injectors will get you a small MPG gain too as the fuel spray is directed and used more ecomically
