Fold your seats flat, that reduces weight, apparantly :snigger:

Empty the washer bottles of water once you reach the event (stash in a convenient container while you do your speed runs)

If you want to make it lighter, fill the car with helium balloons....

If you want to amuse the crowd all the way down the strip.....just fill the car with the helium and sing a song while you do your run!

I'd run the tyres at a lower PSI as it gives more grip, bigger surface area an all that :)

My washer fluid at the front ran out today. I wont be filling it up before tomorrow. The rear one seems blocked so I havent been able to fill it up since it ran out ages ago.

helium...

I could sing 'letter from america' by the proclaimers at the top of my lungs. Its always struck me as a song that would sound funny with the addition of some helium.

Anyway...

I have been stripping, much to the delight of my neighbours.

I was even anal enough to weigh it all on the bathroom scales. :o:

So for future reference, if you want to lose about 75kg in an hour and a half, follow these simple instructions.

remove;

Spare wheel - 15kg
Rear bench - 31kg
Door card (n/s/f) - 2.5kg
Door card (n/s/r and o/s/r) - 3kg
Boot carpet (spare wheel cover) - 5kg
Jack - 2.5kg
Side stow hole covers - 2.5kg
rear seat carpet and tailgate trim - 2kg
Rear seat belt clips/all clips and fixings - 1kg

I also took out the two child seats (4kg each) and an Autoglym cleaning kit (1kg) that have been in the car for ages, reasons for mentioning these will become apparent.

When I had my car weighed recently, it had the child seats and AG cleaning kit in it and weighed in at 1245kg.

I've just taken out 73.5 kg if I've added it up right.

Taking the total weight of the car to 1171.5kg.

I weigh approx 75kg. Which takes the total weight back up to 1246.5.

So essentially I have removed the driver from the equation :?

I've also been doing this in a matt bloody black (read; super heat absorbing) greenhouse windowed touring, so I think I've lost about 5 kgs in sweat! 8O

Oh and before anyone asks... my bloody passenger seat wont slide forward for some reason so I cant get to the two rear bolts to take that out too.

Impressive bit of weight reduction! How about removing the bumpers?

Thats a tad extreme! I have to drive it to the event and back so keeping it legal is high on the list

I may take the lights out when I get there, mainly for cooling than anything.

As it all has to go back in I set myself a time limit.

Everything I could take out in an hour and a half would go.

It took just under that to get it all out but its as hot as the sweaty bit under satans left testicle today so I gave up when i got angry at the passenger seat not moving.

good little tip is if you have any steelie wheels, to bung a set on the front 2 wheels, that will shed a nice bit of weight also matey. and just have a nice wide set of alloys on the back for traction. that is a key thing to think about also, its not just all about weight reduction, suspension can be a very crucial element for quik time aswell, you dont want it rocking round like a boat when ur launching off the line!

I'm stuck with whats on there wheel wise. My steels are in a shed in bristol.

The wheels I have now are a smaller rolling radius than original though so should help with acceleration a touch.

yeah I know... I'm not going to it to try and beat people, though it would be nice winkeye

I'm more interested to see how my car does than anything else tbh.

Plus most of them have so much fibre glass stuck on and ice in the boot they dont dare to drive them properly.

My car is worth nothing... I intend on giving it some unhealthy abuse.

Just took it for a quick blip.

There's definitely a bit of a difference. Nothing earth shattering but it seemed a bit quicker.

My fuel pump sounds bleddy noisy though.... I'm hoping thats just because its only got a sheet of metal between me and it, as opposed to the usual seats etc.

And there's a wierd hissing noise coming from somewhere. Possibly the diff. 8O Tomorrow could be the end of it... I'll be sure to take my britannia rescue card with me. winkeye

Oh and the fuel gauge has started working... filled it up with fuel and it reads full now. :D

Matt black paint MUST increase drag, why not strip it off and use some of that lovely new CHROME paint. It will slip thro' the air like a hot knife thro' butter.
