Anyone who has read my last few posts will know that my 320 "Betty" has cancer of the roof, and not wanting a botched repair I opted for the reshell, found a "good" sheel on ebay, the guy was stripping and selling parts, I bought the shell, ended up with a 316i that was missing the rear lights, and front wings, bonnet and front lights. The car has all running, interior all of which will be going tip tomorrow. Here is the first pictures of the shell, and we did some welding today, upload them tomorrow I think.

Nice pics. Is that shell with the rust hole in your old one or new one? That looks quite bad, no?

Good luck with it though :)

Trust me after taking all the wiring out and then seeing it all in a pile I thought %hit, but then I can label my actual loom as I take it out. It will take a long time to do, but I aint going anywhere and got nothing but time. Thanks to those taking an interest.

Not much more happening, but thought I would put a couple up, the bent chassis legs at the front have been cut out now and waiting for my buddy to weld in the new parts, original not copies, couple of rusty holes have been cut and welded, nowhere near the standard of the 325 sport that is being done on here, but its not going to perfect, its going to be mine.

Hopefully get going properly after the welding is done, mechanics I can do, body type stuff I cant.

you are doing this work to your "new" shell ??

what exactly was wrong with old one, you mention some roof cancer ?? i'm guessing that the roof had rust in and on it, any rust else where ??

was it worse than what you are dealing with now, and messing around with chassis legs and strut housings ??

What's the point of that post? He's doing a great job, and taking the effort to document it to increase the knowledge base on here for all of us, and that's the only comment you can come up with?

I can see the point in constructive criticism like Kos's just above, but not posts like that.

....but sometimes the path of least resistance is the less rewarding.... winkeye

Good on ya mate....a proper project and one that will end up with a car you know literally inside out....nuts, bolts, bruises, scars & all 8) 8)

Keep the pics and progress reports coming. I admire your enthusiasm.

Bruce.

The roof is rusted through on the other one, and to be honest I dont care who repairs a roof, it would never look right especially in black, I have seen some horrible jobs done to roofs, I want a project and this was cheap with a good solid roof, couldnt find one without a sunroof, so here it is.

I m enjoying myself, and I do like a good challenge.

Thats for ALL feedback though, we all have different views.

inner skin damage can be repaired and sorted properly, ( and any patch work will be hidden through roof lining) and the outer roof skin is not that bad of a job to do.

when changing inner wings etc it is advisable to put the car on a jig

i suppose it could be seen as a case 6 of one and half a dozen of the other

good luck

Good on you mate. I am in the middle of a resto myself though no welding required fortunately. I've had some of that what for its only a 316i business. What we are doing is something constructive, preserving something to enjoy in the future as well as enjoying the progression towards our final aims. I guess we could be down the pub pi**ing our time and money up the wall but that'll only f**k our livers up. Good luck and keep at it.

Cheers mate, it may only be a 316 shell, but I have all the stuff to make it a 325, thats my aim, and your right, the pub is an appealing prospect but, Id rather enjoy my money long term.

Cheers for the support guys.

A full resto project must hold some value surely.....

especialy to those who know about these cars, and would appreciate someone devoting their time and money to ensure everything has been done the right way....!!!

Aside from that....it's a great buzz when all your hard work comes together in a shiny new'y finished car! :D
