Does anybody know how to check to see wether or not a relay is working properly? Its the fuel pump one which i suspect has gone but it could also be the pump itself. Wonderingt if theres any way of checking it before i go denting my wallet

You can check for power at fuse 11 (if you have the type of fuse where the fuse wire is accessible from the top), you can remove the relay from the equation completely by shorting together pins 30 and 87 of its socket (with a short piece of wire), or you can swap it temporarily with one of the orange ones in the main fusebox.

did pins 30 and 87 and it just blew fuse, been told also pins 30 and 85, this didnt blow fuse but did nothing, also oi put other orange relay from the fuse box in and nothing happened when i tried to start it. To me it looks more and more like its the fuel pump, does this sound right??

30 and 87are the correct pins. 30 an 85 could damage the ECU.
Fuel pump failure. ( jams up ) is fairly common. Another thread going on the subject at the moment.

Could well blow the fuel pump fuse if the pump is jammed.

i took out the pump and turned the turbine inside with a screwdriver, it felt very stiff at first making me think there was a blockage, then turned smoothly. I put everything back together and still nothing happened , not even a buzzing from the fuel pump  , WHATS HAPPENING TO MY POOR CAR  ?

Check for power at the fuel pump connector with a 12V lamp of 5W or so. Don't forget the pump is only powered for a couple of seconds when you turn the ignition on, and when the engine is cranking or running.
If no power, check the fuse and then try bridging pins 30 and 87 of the pump relay.
The pump will fail again by the way, you need to find a replacement.
