I would like to remove the instrument cluster from the dash as my temperature gauge takes off sometimes and starts to jump about. I have read on this forum that tightening some bolt on the back of the gauge would probely cure this. Is it hard to do, if anyone has any instructions on whats the easiest way to remove it that would be great.

This shows you in great detail, how to remove th instrument cluster.

http://www.e30m3performance.com/mainten ... _Board.htm

It is originally for the SI board, but the first few pages show how to get the cluster out.

Enjoy.

Dont forget to note which screws go where as they are different lengths and the wrong one in the wrong place will result in it going through the dash!!

hardest bit is getting off the two multipin connectors, stick a small flat screwdriver inbetween the male and female plug along the longer side then use a second screwdriver to pop up the black clip, then it just pulls out. remember to draw on a piece of paper which wires go where so youll not forget!!

Don't know if the link given above says to remove the steering wheel or no, because with the speed this dial up connection's working today, it would take too long to find out, but the cluster can just be removed without removing the wheel, if you manouver the cluster face down as it comes out.
