Had some speaker installed on Tueday and what an imporvement!!!

My cab only had 2 speakers in the front footwells which im guessing were the standard ones (are they worth anything?? possibly a collecters item now! :D ) There was nothing in the rears not even any wire!

I purchased my speakers from the internet. I got components for the fronts:

Image

INFINITY Kappa 50.7cs 13cm 255W
Price: £65.19
P+P: £7.99
Total: £73.08
From Ebay

They are pretty good speakers, lack in bass but i guess that is what you can expect from 13cm (5.25"), quite clear and crisp but i was expecting abit more for the price!

And as they were components i needed tweeter pods! i got some from ebay and ended up paying over £50!!! (£42.55 + 7.50 P+P!) I could have got them for under £30 but missed 2 previous auctions :( aa well i needed them quite quick, and they were in brand new condition no broken clips or chips so wasnt all bad!

Rear speakers recommended by cliffybabe:

Image

Pioneer TS-A1311 3-way 5" (13cm) TS-A Series
Price & P+P: £43.00 (i think)

As most of you are aware the rear quarter in a cab are very shallow and they speaker fitted in with very little problems! they had to be mounted behind the screw holes, and the rear speaker panel had to be modded by snipping the plastic circle wall away, took 5 mins to do. All i can say is these speaker are top notch and a very good price! Well impressed!

Had an old alpine headunit from a friend for free (was a flagship model back in 2004 i think) but when fitted it came out faulty :( had to use my trusty £79 Kenwood from halfords!!

My installer qutoed me 2 hours to fit, which would cost me £25 per hour but took him 4-5! but he already quoted me 2 hours so paid £50. It was his first time doing an e30 cab!

Future ice plans:

Stage 2:

A better head unit
An reasonable amp to run speakers
Some Sound installation

Stage 3:

Flip out screen
Sub woofers
Bigger and better amp
Door pods
More speakers
Full sound installation with dynamat extreme

Last thing spoke to my installer about adding subs, he said its very hard to get bass in to the cabin of a convertible, best place is under the roof compartment, with a powerful amp.

He also mentioned something about cutting the metal out from behind the rear seats anyone done this before?

dont cut the metal out on the rear of the cab its not worth it, Just buy either 2 good subs or 1 good sub with a monster amp, Im running one of the brand new alpine type r subs and a 800rms amp and it sounds the nuts

under the roof compartment as in the where the soft top goes? if so, avoid it because you can do a nice sub installation in the boot. wen u lift your rear seats out, you can run wiring through holes into the boot area to connect a amp, sub etc. go to a professional or ice specialist if you can as they will have the know how of an E30 cab hopefully. good luck.

Yeah it all about the roof and sounds

How big is your sub? and does your boot lid rattle? Thought it would be a good idea to cut the metal as it would require less power..

my boot has a very big custom built box, runnin to alpine typr R's, think their 12", but it gives you loads of sub and what not and it rattles when the bass is on the full on setting but my mates one is worse, his plate rattles, infact the whole rear of the car shakes lol. might want to consider putting some mb quartz tweeters on your quarter mirror covers, they crystalise the sound by a mile. acoustics are a pain in convertibles i know, but if you go for the right sound package, mix n match speakers etc, you'll be ok.

Problem is i dont want a big custom install, as i wan to have practical use of my boot, so just wanted to use the area at the back of the boot by the rear seats under the roof compartment! i might even point the subs towards the cabin and box it off hidden from view, so it look like there is nothing in the boot when opened..

Also can you buy theese mb quarts tweeter by them selves or only in component sets?

Anyone else got any pics of their boot builds?Sorry dont mean to hi jack your thread, but going to redo mine soon and it may help you out too. By the way id agree dont bother cuttin the metal out as its not really going to make much difference.

Depends how much time/money you wanna put into it, but if i had a cab i'd like to try a properly built (well tuned) bandpass box, where cliffy's sub is, but wider, then you would just see a carpeted wall when you open the boot!!

Ask a proper ice specialist about this if you don't know about building boxes yourself!!!

Deffo wouldn't cut any metal work though!!!

Ive currently got a pair of 10s in there in a ported box, but i just want to redo it to tidy it up. Theres still plenty of space though. :D I didnt cut any metal away but will be re wiring it when i do it with heavier gauge power cable.

you should be able to get some mb quartz tweeters seperately, just search ebay if anything.
