My '89 320 touring wobbles when brakes are applied. ride is fairly smooth otherwise up to about 80mph. Over that it begins to wobble again, which I'm not really worried about. It's the wobble when braking at lower speeds that is bugging me. Any ideas much appreciated

padzer
did you say it wobbles above 80mph without brakes?? :?
if so
do you have non standard wheels (check centre bore match & spigots)
wheel nuts (worth checking as they do come loose)
if no joy then you on to darker issues such as ball joints & stuff

If the discs are warped, you'll feel it through the pedal - a sort of pulsing, or modulation.

Barring that, my 1st guess would be control arm bushes.

I vote loose suspension bits - warped discs can only be felt through the pedal normally.

Might be worth checking there's nothing nasty like damaged hub/disc/wheel mount faces, for instance a dent in the side of the hub flange will push a lump into the flange's face, leaving the wheel and disc both sitting p1ssed!!!

I does sound a like like the classic Mk1/2 Escort/Capri "30mph shakes" that told you that your strut tops were knackered!

Ive had exactly those symtoms for a few months... I put the wobble over 80, 82 to be exact down to the Alp Reps, 17's, ...as that seems to be the average experience! And as soon as i get the chance will get metal spigots and check the bolts...

However the low speed wobble was Definately due to badly warped discs, which has been getting worse over the last couple of months. I expected this before it went in for its MOT, after reading about it in other threads and sure enough thats what it was. Its still in the shop now getting the discs changed etc.

Also the suspension was shot and the ball joints were really loose!! I knew it was coming so i dont mind paying out to get it done!

discs then control arm bushes then wheel out of balance then possibly seized caliper i had to sort all those before I got rid of my wobble!
