The heater fan on my 325 sport sounds like a helicopter when you switch it on and is making a squealing noise all the time and its so annoying. How do you remove it, is it a big job or do you think it si something simple?

Had this on mine for a long time on setting 1 & 2 but quiet on 3 & 4. It also wouldn't work on 1 & 2 straight away, had to turn it to 4 and then down to 3, then 2 and would be OK. To sort it, you need to undo the 4 x 6or7mm bolts holding the bulkhead cover on. Remove this and you will see the 2 fans. I squirted WD40 into the spindle area of each while they were running and not only has the noise disappeared but it works on all 4 settings. I think they just get all dried up.
If you want to be more thorough, you can carefully undo the 2 straps they come over the fan casings and remove the cover. That will also give you access to the fans themselves and the resitor that sits at the bottom which will undoubtedly need a good clean up. It should just slot in and out.
It is actually a very quick job and very rewarding!

Another great way of lubing fan motors is to soak them with that silicone dash spray stuff, it smells much nicer having Strawberry flavoured silicone inside your car than that "Burned out scalextric" smell that WD40 gives

Hi Philip, glad it worked you too. On Andy's point, I tried Silicon spray first on mine and it worked fine for about a week then the squeek returned. So I tried WD40 second time and it's been fine ever since. Have to agree about the smell tho' but that only lasted a few days. I actually bought one of those AmbiPuree things that fits in the vent in the short term. I think they look naff but now removed and in wife's car!

It worked for me last time I tried it, maybe a blend of WD40 and then a good dose of back to black for the smell. - lol
