I don't know where people get this impression from...its the biggest bmw meet in the country...not too expensive..it cost me a tenner + to go the classic show in tatton park yesterday and last year there were loads of zoners parked together and we had a laugh..it really is what you make it

I wouldn't be too impressed If someone turned-up their nose at mine because I hadn't cleaned a bolt head.
That's just crazy.

Was also told a true story of a mercedes club member (hope your reading this Bill gates  ) He went to an event where certain members had to have their center wheel badges displaying the three pointed star line up corectly with the tyre valve!

Not just that, but the judges were checking for missing labels in the engine bay too.

concours events hold no interest, show and shine is acceptable, but concours just seems to get stupider every year

The concours bit isn't really my scene either. Is the Gaydon show a Concours, show and shine or just a pleasant "enjoy the day" type event like Hestercombe?

(Though there were a few there polishing from the minute they got there to the minute the prizes were dished out...)

Right guys !
As some of you know I support Ron Parish on the BMWCC E30 Register and can say it really is a good day. Personally I can understand people not wanting to pay £45 to join the BMWCC but you can always park in the main car park and pay your walk in entry fee. Ok you dont get to show with the main E30 or Cabriolet or Motorsport section but you do get to see the cars. There is free entry to the Museum which believe it or not is bloody good, got loads of interesting cars.
Food and drink is limited normally to the indoor cafeteria (expensive) or the burger/hog roast outside, I would always take food and drink with me.
If you do stump up the readies and join the BMWCC you will be able to show with the large E30 contingent but segregation for Zoners is not possible due to the limited space and timing/arrival of cars.
Also if you show you can get a spin around the Aston Martin test track playing follow me leader with the pace car. Dont break the rules - no cameras and speed limits to be adhered to.

Lot of money yes - but if you have not experienced Gaydon before you really should try it the once at least.

No concours in the main E30 show section, Ron conducts his normal show and shine which is realistic and not overly penickity like the concours.

Finally, its not very kiddy or lady friendly so bear that in mind.

I say go at least once !!!!

gaydon is a big display of cars from each section of the car club (i.e. the e30 register, the 5 sereis register the local regions etc) then there is also a concours competition and a show and shine comp for thise who wish to enter

there is also free entry into the motor museum

there is generally just a huge lump of e30 owners kcikng around having a laugh and lots of nice cars to go and have a look at both inside and outside the mueseum

Agreed, worth going to. shame we have not got an area put aside, not keen on leaving my car in the car park outside and walking in so i will not be there.

Like to keep an eye on it as all it takes is one nugget/jealous twet/thief, brand new centre caps on mine would like them to stay on my car.

I'll be heading down, not been before so i'm interested to see what it's all about. As for the membership, might give it a go, could be a laugh taking the old bus in! :D You'd spend 45 sheets on a night out, so why not on a day out? + free magazines and a spin on the track! Have to organize a convoy down for the yorkshire crowd.

See you there winkeye

im up for a convoy, read my magazine today from the car club and its not bad. noticed you also get £1.10 off per issue of total bmw when you subscribe so its worth the moolah.

im totally not interested in toffeenosing or polishing my finger ends away but i like looking round cars and talking to owners and i hope a few people want a look at mine so im willing to pay the price to get in.

last year was good but i would like to meet a few more people

Isn't this whats normally said months before Gaydon then on the day people on the gate let in whatever other cars they like the look of. Or is this being cracked down on this year?

Me too Mark, will park in the main carpark area though, can't justify spending out on the BMWCC entry fee when the car won't be on the showfield anyway.
It's not going on a showfield till I sort that buggered valance.
