Ahh, I need to get my head around layering. Sounds like the answer to some of the issues I have.

So if I create a layer, say lassoo something I want to edit, then edit in the lassoo'd layer, the rest of the image will be untouched?

yes.

In corel its called a mask, and they're objects, not layers.

Much simpler way of achieving the same thing imho.

You can use masks in Pshop also.
You never want to use the lassoo blatant. No use at all. I never use it.

Go blue instead of red and to the original saturation.

there are many ways. Quite difficult to explain in type. I often just use the eraser tool.

Go to google and search for photoshop tutorials. Many of these are great and are very easy to follow

^ I didnt touch the saturation, just played about with the colour balance and brightness/contrast. I couldnt remove the redness without messing up the other colours in the picture and I havent got hours to spend doing it properly. So I thought I'd increase the red and make it look a bit darker and sunsetty. and bring out the car more. I dont understand why the colour of the car has changed as I havent touched that image

for something like this PAINTER is a great program for sketching with but i lost the program about a year ago. i will see if i can get it back as the airbrush tool in photoshop is limited but still not bad!

does anyone use a tablet or is all this done with a mouse?

That image was done with a mouse but I have a nice tablet now

Just to try and prove a point (I'm an awkward sod like that! ) I'm going to take my cheap and very average 'point & click' camera with me today - my motor is FILTHY! (last washed in September 2006!) and some of the bodywork is damaged/missing from when I was off-roading last month (not owning an E30, this will have to do!)

The point I am trying to make is that I'll attempt to get some 'nice' shots with a very ordinary low-megapixel camera and a filthy motor on my normal route (I'm not going out on a special trip to make these shots if that makes sense)

If these photos come out looking good, then it shows that anyone with a camera can make a good photo if they put their mind to it....

I'll be back this afternoon with the results....

Well, the original topic has changed slightly, but I thought I'd put up my snapshots from this afternoon anyway. (Please remember that I don't own an E30 and this was in answer to another thread....so it might seem slightly out of place here!!)

Please note it was pi$$ing down for most of the afternoon - I was wearing a suit (on my way to an interview) and the motor was filthy. Combine this with a very ordinary point & click camera and no particular 'setting' in mind....this is the result of 1/2hr of driving around looking for a nice 'photo opportunity'....

NO photoshop here....these are straight off the camera...(albeit re-sized)

















Some I really like - others I'm not too sure about....but the point of the excercise was to show that you can make photos a little more interesting with no real effort, skill or fancy equipment.....it just helps to take them away from your own driveway! As mentioned, these were taken 'en-route' to an interview and I genuinely had no particular backdrop in mind!

While I was wiping the rain off my camera after the very first photo, I looked up and couldn't believe that the perfect 'opportunity' had literally passed me by! I didn't have time to try and line this up - just quickly snapped in order to capture something of a lost chance! This has since been cropped and the colours adjusted in 'shop just to try and reclaim something of what could have been an AMAZING shot!



Like I say, take the car out to an unusual place and get snapping....forget about fancy cameras....just point and click away from the 'norm'....

So much of the basic art of composing a photo has been missing, since blimmin photoshop has been around. I don't take anywhere near as many pics now as I used to, mainly beacause anyone can make an average snap into something 'special' by messing around with it on a computer. There used to be skill involved when it was just me & my SLR!

Well I guess it's just different skills really, & I have been using photoshop for a few years myself (& will probably get a DSLR soon!) - but my point remains - your pics there are very cool.

As I've said, these were quick snaps taken from my fone, but I think they're reasonable. I'm gonna get some decent "arty" shots done when the "mood" is right. If anyone wants to do some photoshopping on my pics, feel free and let me see the results, cos I'm crap at that kinda stuff!

If the truck looked like the one in the photos, then yes it was me! Mine is the only one in the UK as big as that (you can't really miss it )
