:weirdo: You deffenatly need chrome in your life.

Joe that does look spanking, Im sure I can find a way to get rid of the 'Patchiness' for you... Is it aerosol then?

At first I thought It was the reflection of the lights casting a shadow on the body (Stripe) I was going to say it would look

Liking the sign writing / stripes really finish it off...

You need to dig that filler out... Weld a plate in there (Pm me for a 'Tramp' solution)

The stripe disappears at certain angles, I'm very pleased with how it came out. Once I had it masked up I had to fight the urge to do the stripe in white but I'm glad I did.

Its all done from aerosol cans, two coats, 13 cans. I'm guessing to sort the patchiness it needs a spot of wet sanding with some very very fine paper?

I know the filler isnt the ideal way to do it, will probably crack the first time I slam the boot but me and welders would be a dangerous combination.

You have pm :D (well you will in a minute)

My thoughts exactly.. would love an entirely smooth boot with no number plate recess but I cant imagine it would be easy/cheap.

Not sure about the front one though... not really anywhere to relocate it to... actually the same goes for the boot... where would I put it?

A tempting solution is black and white plates, but I dont fancy getting pulled every ten minutes.

Tints and smoked lights, along with all black borbet a's are on the cards.
I was goin to suggest that!!!! Likin that two-tone stripin tho ;)
Gaffa tape is like "the force" - it has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together.
There's nothing that shouts "Poor Workmanship" more than wrinkles in the Gaffer tap

Boot might look to plain... How about smaller ones as found on bikes? (Not square)

Tom with the 318R (Was at the meet) had his held on with black velcro strips

Or! Them 'No plate surrounds' you can get that screw to the bumper and unclip from the bottom...

uber cool munky!

I want to remove all traces of chrome from my 316 and join the darkside!

I'd been looking for pics of matt black cars to see what they looked like!

Couple of questions for you..

Did you do the paint work yourself?

Did you just use "normal" spray paint?

What method of priming did you use?

Did you use and sort of laquer post painting?

How did you do the roof?

Do greasy fingerprints make messy marks?

That is all

Munky go black and grey plates.

MY dad had his on for about 3 weeks and only got pulled once, slap on the wrists and £30 the police got him on 4 things aswell :)

My dad has done velcro too, it's quite effective.

Go for it :) :)

Yup.
Did you just use "normal" spray paint?
Hycote Acrylic Formulation Matt Black. (rattle can, £1.50 a tin, 'normal paint')
What method of priming did you use?
800 grit sandpaper all over. Matt black is essentially the same as black primer so no need to prime it.
Did you use and sort of laquer post painting?
Nope.
How did you do the roof?
I'm a short person, but my car is very low  I just stood on a box at the side of the car and reached.
Do greasy fingerprints make messy marks?
Yes. But all you need is a damp cloth and a towel to wipe them off.
Daimlerman wrote: Do you have to drive with your lights on all the time,so that you can be seen?
No lights, but I scared the sh*te out of some poor woman today. I was parked in a shadowy part of a car park, started it up as she walked past and I dont think she'd noticed it, poor girl nearly jumped out of her skin.
max wrote:MY dad had his on for about 3 weeks and only got pulled once, slap on the wrists and £30
Seems a bit pointless then.... 4 weeks of it looking good with black plates isnt worth £30 imho.

Tempted by the velcro idea though so I can have 'show plates'.

Funny you should say that, I was thinking about it while I was masking up the scuttle panel.

Never really been a fan of the single wiper thing as normally they're slightly off centre, but the e30 wiper hole would line up perfectly.

Spook - white walls.... hmm... I dont think its old enough to carry off whitewalls... maybe if I put some red outline scallops on it..

Choppa - Not at all, the more matt black there is in the world, the happier I am. I'll be doing Haths tourer in a while too winkeye

Cheers for all the compliments guys :D

Diaaaaaamn!
What a slaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag!

I feel like going and rubbing my car back down with a brillo pad and leaving it like it! :)

I can't wait to see some pics with 'blacked' headlamps, that will finish it off for me!

An IS front lip spoiler would look mean to, in my opinion.

Nice work dude!

Martin.

If you have a garage to use I'll happily come and give you a hand, in exchange for beer.

Haven't really thought about how it would look on a saloon... could look pretty damn cool.

At this rate they'll have to make a matt black section on the zone winkeye
