Hey guys,

Here is the item in question:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... &rd=1&rd=1

Been watching this on ebay. it's in my area and fits my car (pre-facelift) but has anyone had any experience with this sort of damage? easy to fix or not? some fibreglass on the back and some filler or something? Thought it would be worth it if it goes cheap-ish?

Thanks,

Ben

If it's fibre-glass, then you can easily repair it using fibre-filler...and using some wire mesh if needed...

shouldn't be to hard....

if it goes cheap, and you like it...should be a cheap DIY fix! :D

just remember fibre-glass is a b*stard to work with, so make sure you cover up well!

update - I got it for $72. not bad i reckon. Picked it up today and it needs some patching but workable. I've never really worked with fibreglass before so it'll be a learning experience. Anyone got any tips?

get some fibre glass matting, and some resin, align it up on the front, use abit of wood/metal or something to keep it straight. then use the matting and resin on the back, brush on the resin first, lay on a sheet, and brush the sheet into the resin thats on there, sheet over the middle, then do 2 bits over the edges of that sheet and then over the middle again, like brickwork. remembering your putting the resin on first and working the fibre into the resin. couple of layers should be fine.

let it set. properly. (24hrs at least, but the resin your using will tell you how long you need to leave it)

then flip it over remove your brace, get yourself some filler, P38 or similar, sand it down, and use the filler to smooth over the gap, then sand it to the profile.

i find getting abit of hard foam(even wood, although abit harder to shape) and profiling it to the bumper/what ever your working on then using that as a sanding block is a good way of retaining the profile.

take your time over the sanding, it may look good enough, but i betyou when you stick abit of primer on it, its noticable. dust the area with primer, not a good coat, a spattered dusting. then sand it again, this will show you any low/high spots that either need more filler or more sanding. will take a while to get it right

Well, after some fibreglassing, some filling, some more filling, lots of painting etc it's looking good and nearly ready to go on..

Which brings me to my point. Does anyone have any experience of how these mount? All I can see is about 6 or 7 small holes along the top of it. Are these all that hold it on? and how easy is it to undo the front (chrome) bumper?

Thanks guys.. :)
