So, who's been out drifting and really screwed things up?

here's my contribution. result of this was (as most people probably know by know) smashed sump. bent lower arm. snapped engine mount. I'd just done the cambelt, oil and other service bits too. gutted.

Worst thing was I'd done this move quite a few times earlier that day.

Ermmm....I've snapped an engine of it's mounts and fckued up a BBS.

I've mounted a slanted kurb (lucky!) in the middle of a roundabout and broke my shitty M-Tech II replica valance (got real one now!)

Errmmm....

Probably more, I'll try to remember later!

Ruined many a tyre drifting!

nice. lucky that it was a slanted curb!

not so long ago ( I really shouldn't admit this I'm sure) I was coming out of a rounadbout at about 60 is and the backend fell out unintented, I fish tailed a little and the the back hit the curb and it threw me on to two wheels at easily 45degrees, if not more. That was one fucked bbs.

c'mon guys I'm sure there's loads of stories here :)

Forgot to say what actually happened! I just hit the middle of the roundabout and the viscous shreadded itself and the rad, with some damage on the bonnet because the fins flew about inside the bay.

No other damage tho i spent a while going over it :D

I did my 320i tourer in a similar manner in September. Lost the back unintentionally doing 60ish on a relatively tame left hander, it was a bit damp, caught it but wary of overcorrecting and ending up in the verge facing the oncoming traffic I headed towards what looked like a small verge thinking I'd just ramp over it and land in the field behind. I hit the verge at about a 30 degree angle, span the car round at a weird angle taking out a signpost with the rear drivers three quarter and stopping about 50 yards down the road. Started her up excellent, then realised she was stuck in gear and the front drivers wheel was pointing out at a strange angle. The force of the impact had thrown the spare out the back window and was never found! It took me 6 months to find the balls to replace it, so I got a 325i! :D

I spun mine within 2 miles of buying it!     on muddy roundabout in west wales... Nicely bent a bottlecap and trailing arm. About 8 month down the line I also found out that i had bent the rear cross member as well.. was getting really dodgy handling. The garage the replaced the trailing arm had actually bent it so it would fit the cross member! eeek! Linwar in the end sorted it all out for a rather ball braking price.

That was all 4 and a half years ago now, and learn't how to drive a bit better now!

Not especially heroic as I was moving house the next day and had to pay Ԛ£250 to get it towed, she only cost Ԛ£500! The best bit, apart from JUST passing the breathalyser, was the copper giving me 10/10 for catching it in the first place! :D
Also got a claim on my insurance to replace the signpost, fcukers, if I'd have known I'd have taken it as a souvenir. And I get the guilt of seeing her sad face everytime I go to the scrappy. :(
Whilst looking for the spare I found my rear windscreen sticker, "Music Saves", which I found rather poignant. Needless to say I drive evrywhere at 30 when it's wet now, especially round roundabouts and tight bends! :D

Sounds like a dodgy one Gwyn...!

Joe, not so good really then, 250 quid, that's a shame. :(

Should have taken the sign for sure, if you had to pay for a new one. I would have refused to pay unless they gave it to me!

gwynley, joe

sounds like you got of reasonably light there wil. If you're not planning keeping her I assume you'll be in for another e30?!?!

seems to be a bit common, the back end going unexpectedly. does this feel for the limit improve when suspension, tyres and bushes get upgraded?

Tyres mostly, but some of the better more grippy ones are good. Until you push too hard, where when they go, they go properly due to the higher speed at which you are going because of the better grip!

Some cheaper tyres, with less grip are better if you are ready for a bit of back end action, because they lose grip more progressively at less dangerous speeds!

Catch 22......

If i dont keep this one i'll be getting something modern 8O
I got off lightly because i was p!$$ing about on a roundabout and i knew i had lost it so i jammed on the brake, was definately under 10mph when the impact took place. When its wet at higher speeds im always vigilant of having 192+bhp to the rear wheels with no driver aids and a big lock-to-lock! :?

Dude there is no way it was the fan blades that did that DIY power bulge on your bonnet, it was the engine.

i did a good one once, here's the scene: i'm 18 in my 318i on Christmas day 2000, no one about and it's wet................. being charley big spuds on cheap rear tyres i went round a right hander far too quick (must of been 70 on a 50 road). I must of fistailed about a 100 yards up the road before giving up and hitting a tree which in turn guided me onto a tree stump. Not so clever now i thought!

Damage was on the passenger side, 1 bottletop, wish bone proper kinked! front wing, headlamp, bumper, valance, fog light, iS lip, bonnet

Still managed to drive it home with the passenger wheel pulling me hard off the road for 3 miles!

I think what made it more difficult controlling the car was it had no power steering which didn't help

Hi i'm new around here,

i've done some hero damage too, last July I had a lovely K reg 325 coupe (e36 shape) where i went round a sharp left hander and floored it trying to entice the back end out, i was very aggressive with the sterring and i ended up zig zagging trying to correct it, hit the central reservation, shattered an alpina rep alloys, spun a 180, smacked side ways up a kerb began to roll, luckly a reinforced fence caught the car.

She was destroyed, both drivers side wheels were wonky, two massive dents on the side - rear quater and wing, engine off mout, must of been some chassis damage as the passenger side panel alignments were way out!.

Luckly i got out bruse free!

I must confess though, I had the strange idea that keeping my foot planted on the throttle would pull the car out of the zig zag, which i now know is not the correct way to drive RWD

Im trying to find the balls to jump in a RWD again, love the E30 shape and now my driving style has matured!

well, bellend here decided to try and sideways a 2 lane roundabout in the wet(fair enuff u say) but in a 318 auto

set 2nd, floored it, slipped out the back, mad angle so let off , then broke

car did a pirouette, fliped lanes at the maddest angle ever and landed (litterally) in to the railings outside southgate station (gwynly, will,.. u know where i mean)

anyway caved in the entire front, cained both fronts..cracked and flat.

wings dead, doors mangled, mounts broke, rad gone, fan gone, gearbox gone, steering gone (ish)

not a happy pup, but it was all repaired at reasonable cost, but i didnt take the piss in her again

Southgate station aye, i know where you mean, i must be quite local to you - I'm in Friern Barnet

When I had the old bmw i used to try it round there.

Since you're from this area you'll prolly know where i crashed - Colney Hatch lane North Circular junction heading towards Friary park Industrial Estate. I lost it round that corner and the reinforced 8 foot high fences are still down with the Metal reinforcement bent at angle

we've got a great council - i destroyed that fence last July

I lost it bad in my clapped out 316i at Southgate station too!
The exit that goes off to your left onto a pub and down hill, the traffic island there is demolished (not cause of me i didnt hit anything) so it must be a tricky corner! Did a 180 and was facing up the hill and not down it like i was meant to be going...

my point is your gona give drifting a shitty reputation pretty quick driving like thta, in fact dont refer to that as drifting really, because if that was an attempt at drift basic car control would have saved you from understeering straight into a kerb.

drift isnt about driving fast round a corner and hoping the rear steps out at all.

maybe you should learn a bit first before trying on the roads again might do yourself a favour. or your car a favour.

I just did a tiny bit of damage on the way home from my birds. I was messing about all thorugh my local villeage as it was midnight and nothing was about, and it was wet...

Anyway, couple of little mini roundabouts (they were mini, but had actual central parts with concrete/grass etc so you couldnt just go over a little hump) anyway, where it was so tight, i went in quite slowly , then comming out floored it in second and kept it quite nicely. So i went back and did it at least 10 more times as no one was about.

Then just as i was about to go home i got cockey and did it again, and i came out of the turn going sideway then tried catching it out and keeping it the other way which i had kind of done before. But the bitch just fishtailed back and i slammed on the brakes as i was heading towards the kurb. I slid up and ripped my is lip off. Grabed it and ut it in the car, and made a dash to a quite road.No damage done, just a bit annoyed lol.
